are those your cutoff settings? because they seem like their for 10s

For all of my 10s packs:

  • Cut off start: 32v

  • Cut off end: 30v

has anyone experience if it really pays off distance wise to go as low as 2,8v cutoff end with li-ion packs ? i mean compared to values over 3,2v

Got cutoffs when I had it a little higher. Now I can still climb hills at 3.2v per cell or go on 45 mile rides (once or twice a year). Usually never reach that low of a voltage tho.

I’ve heard of this being detrimental to the pack, as some BMSs don’t actually charge cells below a certain charge.

Also I feel like I remember seeing an argument that the density of energy between 3.0v and 2.0v is pretty low, meaning it’s super easy to overshoot how much you are discharging the cells

I’d be really worried about reducing cell lifetime in those scenarios. But I’m glad this works for you and I’m glad you shared this with us.

At 7P though you have a bit more flexibility than, say, a 4P pack

The li-ion discharge curves drop off a cliff at the end, so the amount of extra range from 3.0V/cell to 2.8V/cell is very, very small. Also, the lower the voltage goes, the more the cells dislike supplying large currents.

I wonder if that’s resting voltage or under voltage sag? Here is my ride I would have hit cutoff 10mile short of this ride due to sag at anything over 2.9v per cell. Resting voltage is still above 3v per cell

Why start so soon on the cutoffs? This way sag becomes really apparent

I have used start 30, end 29 for 10S, this lets you enjoy the battery until the end without losing hardly any power

The idea in that scenario is that you can feel the backoff start and turn and start going towards home

That’s the whole idea

Oh that makes perfect sense, not for me, I like the adrenaline of never knowing if I will get home

Worked fine so far

This thread is just what i needed right now. I was wondering what cutoff settings i should use with my 10S 30Q pack, knowing that the voltage reading from the flipsky 6.6 dual i’m using is jumping quite a bit.

For now i just used the default vesc tool settings for 10S, but i’m worried that i’ll get weird behaviours near the cutoff.

In my experience, that actually does work way more often than not, surprisingly.
