My experience with the esk8 supply dual vesc based esc

UPDATE! I have put around 30-45 miles on this vesc and no issues thus far. Some of pros and cons are listed throughout this thread but I will try to summarize them here. Pros- Easy install as everything is intigrated (great for beginners and minimizes wire clutter) Really nice feeling remote that I’ve experienced zero disconnects with. I love what @rpasichnyk is doing. This is the correct way of handling the release. Not only you have all the binaries at one place but they are also associated with revision tags and thus it’s easy to see the code changes that relate to the released version. Maybe just add the changelog entries to each release and it would be perfect. It would be great if someone copied this pattern for Ackmaniac’s Tool and Unity Tool. Ideally this would be done by the main repository owners (Vedder, Ackmaniac…

I have that esc.
I had issues when I tried updating vesc firmware.
Everything worked when I downgraded to vesc firmware 3.65 (vesc tool 1.28 I think)

When I went to downgrade I had to reflash the bootloader through vesc tool to get it to successfully load the firmware. As far as I can tell there’s no port on this esc to recover it using an st-link, so proceed with caution.

So I’m afraid i just bricked one side of this ESC. As i was waiting my 10 seconds for the upload to be done the ESC timed out and turned itself off. Now it wont recognize it when i plug it in. Is there anything I can do at this point or do I just have a brand new paper weight?

I have that ESC too, It works like a charm and I’ll never ever try to update anything with this one. Too scared to break anything…

there are several test points on PCB, would be worth checking if they aren’t for SWD

which firmware version would you recommend?

This version only supports V3.65 firmware. If you upgrade to the new firmware, the ride mode switching function and direction switching will be lost.

Interesting. I updated but assumed the mode switching never worked and I just set the control mode to have reverse.

What causes these to stop worrking? Are they done over UART?

I don’t quite understand the coding stuff. The VESC team adds new content to other places rather than at the end, so it is difficult to patch.

Hey i have this vesc, and for some reason i can’t get as much torque or speed as my previous vesc, with the same hubs and battery. There is a hill bh mh house i used to zoom up. But this vesc has nade the same board struggle. Any ideas as to why.

Also, i can’t get it to stop starting in reverse.
