I’m currently experimenting with new solutions for water protection and they haven’t been tested enough to recommend at this moment, though they do seem really good so far.
There are threads for this though
Hey guys,
I was wondering how I can make my board the most water-resistant. I found some things but I am wondering what else I could do:
I found this shrinkwrap rubber wire tubing and I was thinking of putting this around the motor wires. I guess it’ll make it more resistant, I don’t know. I also found these rubber grommet rings. I think they can resist the water trying to do into the ESC. I also have the enclosure gasket.
BLDC motors mostly aren’t affected by water, even in water the resistance of the water is higher than the coil resistance so the electric mostly just stays in the coil. Water definitely accelerates the rate of bearing wear, sometimes tenfold or hundredfold or more.
The thing inside motors which absolutely does not like water, is the sensor assembly. This is where most problems will be.
If you battle harden a motor, you can also waterproof the phase interconnects and the sensor assembly while…
Sure, h2o safety.
@b264 and the rest of you amphibians, give me your best practices to avoid a watery grave.
I am aware that our supreme overlord lives in Florida, land of perpetual dank crotch. Most nights I curse the moon and she sheds a tear inland and leaves my coast alone.
Sure, I’ll tape up my breather holes. Tell me what else I should do to avoid Shorts and corrosion. I’m standing in only my soaked boxers, planing my efoil build right meow.

How do you guys waterproof your battery/esc enclosures? I’ve been thinking of just using silicone caulking when I screw it down.

For peace of mind in snowy and soggy conditions, we would like our boards to be as waterproof as possible, looking for ways to protect packs from rusted cells and shorted circuits
As far as I can tell, the best ways to protect a pack would be…
acrylic conformal coating on the BMS
wrap everything in heat shrink
seal all gaps in heat shrink with neutral cure silicone
