My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

Yeah.
I really don’t plan on doing anything different.

I was talking to my Onewheel buddy and he had a run in recently with a trails volunteer, that pulled his bike in front of him when he was on his Onewheel…

So it just sucks to have people enabled to be dicks…

But it will take many bad interactions, and escalation to make me quit taking the trails.

Janet… the new Karen

Despite being bummed about the new awareness of my ilegal status I went for a ride today at lunch.

And it was a gorgeous sunny day, and I ended up doing 25 miles on the Flux.

I have to say I really enjoy how quiet it runs.
Well, and how it runs in general.

This here may or may not be me breaking the Law!!!

A funny thought just crossed my head though.
When I ride the EUC, and sometimes on the Big Boards I wear the Kaly Predator full face helmet.

And I do feel awkward when I roll past pedestrians walking around, and I look like I am going to do a Nitro Circus back flip…

I feel way less awkward with the half shell.

On my next possible run in with a Karen I’m going to say that whatever I am riding is an EPMAD.

Which really they are.

I mostly blame the Chip and Seal…

The first day when I just rode the board in the parking garage they did great.
Sounded good.
Pretty quiet.
No skipping.

As soon as I started getting out in the neighborhood I had all kinds of rocks getting in there.
Some big enough to move the motor…
And even had a Belt break.

How good is your push?

It’s not an esk8, it’s an electric assist mountainboard. I push primarily but need the assist when I’m tired.

I think the max 20mph speed thing kills your EPMAD argument. But, fuck them. As long as you ride safely and courteously I can’t see anyone actually forcing you to stop. The Karen’s will bitch, but if you send them a good 24s6p powered vibrator you’ll never hear from them again.

I wondered why Bill has been so quiet lately

We hung out at the playground yesterday after school.

So I rolled around on the Gravel Flux.

The tennis courts hit a bit different on 9 inch MBS tires compared to 80mm kegels…

Still fun.

What I ended up doing was riding in there switch stance a bunch.
That is so hard to do on the Gravel Flux…

But I did do it for quite a bit and it really is an interesting mental and physical exercise!

It was less intimidating doing it in the tennis courts than out on the road.

Then something weird happened.
Which I think was Z-mote related.
Or maybe Vesc weirdness… I don’t know…

But I stopped for a second and Max asked to ride on the board.
20240201_155954_1
I pushed it to about 70 feet away and Stopped it and he got off.

But after that, the board was locked up, and the remote would not respond…

There was actual resistance on the wheel.

When I turned the Z-mote on it would flash Blue, then start blinking Red.
I think kind of how it does is the board is off. And the receiver is not on.

I don’t have a power button on this board and could not power cycle it…

And I was able to run detection on Vesc, but not set up the input…

I am. Not sure it the Z-mote got out of Range and went to a locked up mode.

Maybe, maybe… The remote battery was low.
But charging it alone did not get it to respond.

So I had to get my wife to rescue me in the minivan.

And after getting home I went for a sunset Onewheel ride.

After I got home I turned the board back on, ran input set up, it saw the remote, and everything was acting normal.

So that is good.
But I still hate mystery shit.
Luckily we were just down the road, and the rescue was easy.

Hey man, did you flux come with a cover for the rear of the enclosure where the wires come through?

I ordered the gasket and heat sink separately, hoping that little cover is included…

Mine has the old enclosure…

If the kit doesn’t include it, I bet someone could 3d print one for you!!!

Yesterday was a cool riding day!

It’s really nice. Got into the 50s.

At lunch break I drove out and met Drew for a 7 mile Onewheel ride on the trails…

You know, a bit of breaking the Law.

And we found a new sweet side trail that was fun to explore.

Later on I’m am rolling home with the kids after school, and this neighbor kid I know pulled up behind me on his Onewheel Plus.

And he followed home so we could ride a bit.

We played in front of the house on the Onewheels, and Max rode his hoverboard cart thing.

The neighbor kid asked to ride a board so I took out the Demonseed DKP for him, and I got on the Llama Link and we rolled around a while.

This is the kid I gave a long board to a little while back, and he rolls on his Onewheel a good bit.
So he was quite comfortable zipping around on the Demonseed. He had knee pads, helmet, and wrist guards on… And I was still horrified of him falling. But he was totally fine.

We rolled back to the house and Luca had just gotten home with Mom, and he was stoked to see us out riding.

So he geared up and I got him on the little Onewheel.
We rolled all the way to the school and back. Probably a good 1.5 miles.
With Luca holding on to my finger.

It was really, really, really freaking cool to do this!!!

It has been a good week for riding.

The wife and I snuck out of town for the weekend to Jefferson City, which is the capital city just half hour from where I live.

The vehicle of choice was the GT.

I tooled around for a bit in the morning, and it’s such a good way to explore.

In the afternoon I rode on a little nature preserve trail which was a total delight.

It’s worth noting I was being a dick riding here, as I usually stay out of places that say no bikes.

But it was a cold day after nice days and it was mostly empty… Hardly rolled past any people.

And I think the Onewheel is the least “imposing” PEV.

But dang it was so dreamy to ride in there!!!

The rest of the week got super nice and felt spring like, and the afternoons are already feeling longer.

Tuesday I rode 40 miles even, which I don’t have too many big days like that anymore.
But I did an 18 miler on the Llama for lunch.

And later in the afternoon I took the Flux to go to the dentist.

I meandered a good bit on the way home.

Even swung by my buddy Drew’s house and he was out on his Vesced XR which I hopped on for a loop around the park. The power of Vesc!!! So good.

Such a sweet evening…

Wednesday seemed to be a day for Mono wheeling.
I got out on the Patton for a morning warm up.

At lunch I got out for a ride with my Onewheel buddy Daniel.
This picture is taken right as the board was falling over, when it hit the ground it shot off and launched into the creek, and went for a full dive.

So that was awesome.
I totally thought it could happen when I was standing the board up for the picture… And then it really did happen.

Luckily the board is fine.
I would have been so bummed if I killed it being silly like that.

Thursday I sprinkled enough rides in to rack up 31 miles!!!

EUC warm up in the morning.
Onewheeling at Lunch.

Llama Link after school.

And when the little dude got home he asked to go to the skatepark.

It snowed today, and honestly I needed a rest day…

This week I finally got around to putting the Trampa 9 in Mudpluggers on the Gravel Flux.

The BMS 9s could probably been kept on there longer since I don’t “need” thread…

But I needed something to do and have a pile of Mudpluggers.

Since I really use this board on the street more than anything these Mudpluggers are overkill… And I don’t think they run as smoothly as the MBS tires. But since they were on the shelf here the price was right.

I actually want to go out and try them in the snow.
But it’s super cold today. Will probably wait till tomorrow…

I updated the firmware on the PXVX today.

I have been on 6.0 since I Vesced it, and it’s been fine.

So I have managed to resist the urge to update.
But today I gave in.
I needed something to do to pass the time.

I have used Mario’s video so many times now… What a great reference.

Everything went well on the first go, and now I can make the Pint so the stand up thing.
Which I think is the best Vesc easter egg!!! Or whatever.

Makes me happy every time.
Reminder to stay from creeks.
