My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

I got out a little bit yesterday, even though it never got warmer than 25…

On Friday we got about 2 inches of powdery snow.
It melted from the hard surfaces, but in some places the grass was still covered.

So I thought what a great opportunity to try out the Mudpluggers in the Snow.

Which they did really good!!!

I guess that is to be expected with those aggressive threads. But I was pleasantly surprised by how well it handled. And how much fun I had!!!

I can’t quite say that this was a poor design choice, because I don’t think I put that much thought into it.

But however I got here, it’s not a great spot for a charge plug apparently…

Riding in the snow was fun.

I don’t get really frisky with it… And can’t do serious drifting.

But the little bit of slipping and sliding I was doing made me happy!!!

Yesterday I dragged the kids out to the school playground.

And then I dragged them around behind the Gravel Flux.

I was hoping there was still some snow on the grass, but not so much.

This is something I had not done before. But is obviously a good idea.

It was not going to go anywhere with all of them on there.

Since there was no snow, it was pretty hard to pull the sled actually. I got some crazy consumption.
And the current draw looked crazy too.

So I could not go for super long. And had to take breaks.
But the little bit we managed to do was pretty fun.

I bet it would be extra sweet on snow!!!

Today we are back to spring like weather, and I got out on the Demonseed DKP for 8 miles.

Feels like it had been a minute since I last rode it.

Today was a good day for Mono wheeling!

Drew came over and we did a lunch break ride.
Down to the park just a couple miles from my house.

It was such a gorgeous day, and riding with Drew is always a great vibe.

And this is an epic spot.

And this is an epic spot.

And we even did a smidge of hiking to explore.

After work I got out on the Patton.
And did a 7 mile cruise near the house with some little trails sprinkled in.

Weather has been good and riding is happening.

No tinkering…
But some riding.
Not as much riding as there should be,.given how nice it has been.

Playground hits and skatepark hits.

A dash of mono wheeling…

Look @b264 yet another use for Butyl.

Now my light weight 3d printed Bonk Rock is stuck in place on the driveway.

I went downtown today to meet a couple friends for lunch.

This place has been open since 1884…
These little burgers are the closest thing I have to a religion!

The board of choice to take was the Demonseed.

It was actually really awkward to get in and out of the restaurant with it…
Even though it’s the smallest board as far a pneumatics go, it’s is still long and awkward.

I pondered taking the Omakase, that would be way better to carry in.
But I wanted the ease and comfort of pneumatics.

It’s interesting how my perspective on thane has shifted over the years.

Here is some hipster stuff…

I wanted to go for a lunch break ride today.
I actually wanted to go out to trails nearby on the GT.

But it was only an 71%.
And when I plugged it in earlier the power strip was turned off.

So the board of choice did not have a full battery, making it time for plan b.

Plan b was the Flux which had a flat.
And I decided to fix that.
What a breeze and a joy it is to fix a flat tube with these MBS hubs @MBS
No need to take the nut off.

Just undo the 5 bolts.

I suppose this is extra easy thanks to the NewBee transition plate.

Either way. I got the board up and running really fast and headed out into sunny 55 degrees weather.

I ended up doing 13 miles and cruised through my favorite neighborhood.
I love the Flux.
It’s my favorite vibe, with the big carves.

El Favorito!!!

Sunday funday!!!

It was an awesome day.
Sunshine and it got to 80/26c.

So today, for the first time this year I had to decide if I went riding in pants or shorts.
I chose pants and should have gone with shorts…

I got out on the Llama Link and ended up doing 19 miles.

I just rolled through some of my favorite neighborhoods. Generally staying away from trails since everyone was going to be out and about.

I am enjoying the 3 links.
They fill me with confidence in a slightly sketchy way. Because I kinda feel like I can do no wrong with them.
With the matrix trucks I could do wrong moves sometimes and get some wobbles.
So I was more intentional with my carving.

I feel like I can be more careless with the links and throw them around.
Without getting that sketchy wobble!!!

So hooray for that.

On the flip side of things I keep getting more bummed about how loud the open gears are…
Chains are coming soon.
I hope I can make them work.

After I got back from my ride we headed out to go to my wife’s aunt’s farm, and I put all the mono wheels in the van.

It was a total delight to tool around the fields in the GTVX and the PXVX.

The little dude rolled around some too!

But the most fun was when I got on the big wheel and rolled around the fields.

This was such a cool deal. And something I could only do on the EUC.
The suspension and the overall capability to go on this super rough and bumpy terrain is really something.

I didn’t really know what to expect when I put the EUC in the van, I was planning on showing it to people mainly.

I didn’t realize I was going to get to go on such a cool ride, and get a work out while I was at it.

Stoked.

My wife’s cousin wanted to try the Onewheel, and he skated back in the day, so after just a few minutes he was floating with solid control.

I love sharing the Onewheel for people to try, and it’s especially cool when they really get to floating right away!!!

There is a little pond and the kids actually got in the water.

Which inspired me to jump in, which was a pretty insane cold plunge!!!.

Definitely make you feel alive!!!

Great day!!!

Yesterday it was a day for Mono wheeling.
I met up with a couple kids to ride around the trails near my house.

VID_32110106_125607_610_1

Later at night I took off on the GT to watch some lightning, and sure enough got caught in the rain…

Shoulda brought my fender.

Definitely a fun and refreshing experience.

I love being able to ride the Onewheels in the rain.

I realize water resistance is not perfect, and some day that may drop me.

But for the most part I will ride them in some really wet conditions, and there was ton of water flying around last night.

I actually got some moisture in my sensors pad connector, so it was acting like the two sensors on the front pad were one.

So i actually had the GTVX on the bench today.

Lots of moisture everywhere…

I cleaned and dried.
Covered in silicone paste and heat shrink.
And then covered with hot glue.

I expect this part of it with be pretty water resistant now…
I really did not take this into consideration when I put these pads on originally, and just taped the connectors together…

I guess you ride and you learn.

Today was a good day for esk8.

I had to drop my car off at the shop and took the Omakase to make my way back home which was about 4 miles.

I chose the Omakase since it is easy to throw in the trunk.
And I love riding it, and I knew I could hit a bunch of good roads on that sweet thane

At lunch time I hit a 12 miler on the Flux.
And it’s running great, it’s so quiet, and so much fun to carve.
I actually had to run an errand and go into a store…
And without a handle, this is not a great board to take into places.
But it was the ride vibe I was looking for, so it was the chosen one.
Always a good choice!

A bit later in the afternoon I had the usual school pick up on the Gravel Flux (in Tow Truck mode)

But then I added a bonus cruise after unhitching the trailer.
And just carved around the neighborhood.
This was so much fun.
It’s weird, because the two Fluxes are so similar, but also so different.

The trucks are wider on the Gravel Flux, and they have the magic of Riptide in them.

But the biggest distinction is the big 9 inch tires…
That really makes you feel grounded.

@Shadowfax today I was really getting into the Mudpluggers.
Maybe they have broken in some.
Or maybe I just have gotten used to the rumble and sharp sides.

But as I carved through the chipnseal roads I was really enjoying the feeling of the tires.

Same same, but different.

Something I didn’t realize until just now, is that the Gravel Flux has a slightly longer wheelbase.
1.5 maybe 2 inches…
Which is a notable difference between the Matrix III and the 3DS trucks…

Definitely a big difference with the tires.

Oh the glory days!!!

I converted an old VHS tape I made of skateboard clips back in the day.

The VHS tape is called the Shirtless Bandit!!!

Ahh to be young…

I remember having to rewind after every single reset to record over the falls because we had no way to edit. Good times.

Is that you in those clips!?

Hell yeah Raf! Is that the same skate park you go back to now with the short boards?

It is the same park.
I don’t expect I will kick flip the piramid on the ATV Ditch Life though…

I have dreamed of trying to kick flip it. But I also like my ankles :grinning:

This is a rare occasion.
But for today’s lunch ride I almost didn’t have anything to go ride because of low batteries…

It’s hard to keep boards charged.
It’s hard to not keep boards charged…

But it was a moist gloomy day.
The moist part eliminates a lot of choices.

I was feeling tired and lazy, so I was just going to ride the GT downtown to grab an espresso.

But the GT was at 46%

So I looked at the Pint. It was at 42%

Fine. I’ll take an esk8 I said.
And grabbed the Gravel Boi. It was at 43 volts…

So the last option was the Gravel Flux, and I was only at 45 volts…

Talk about extreme first world problems.

I charged the Gravel Flux to just over 46 volts and took off for a chill ride on paved trails surrounding the neighborhood.

I decided to jump off the paved trails for a small stretch of trails in the woods.

I could not make it up this little hill turn up there.
There are roots and rocks that keep me from keeping momentum on esk8.
I can’t make it up it on the GT.
My buddies can make it on their Vesced Onewheels.
My GT just sits too low.
The EUC makes it up fine.
Someone better than me at esk8 would be able to send it no problem.

Once I got past the initial little hill the trail was a blast to run through.

Such a pretty spot.

I ended up at just 6 miles.
And the battery had plenty to go still.

I sure am glad I got into Onewheels!

Such cool devices.

And they are especially cool with a Vesc inside.
Definitely glad I did that.
