Little FOCer! 84V 5kW VESC-Based Controller

Yep I’ve seen this mistake before. The exposed tabs of the MOSFETs are the drain of the MOSFET and therefore electrically active. Hence why a silicone based thermal pad is used rather than just thermal paste. Feel free to PM me on all the details of your build, settings, and whatever else was going on for me to diagnose why it was getting hot in the first place. Generally airflow is needed when pushing the limits and people like to just shove ESCs into plastic box(coffin).

So Looking at Vedder’s video on “VESC-scripting native WS2812-driver from LispBM” (VESC-scripting native WS2812-driver from LispBM - YouTube) it uses DMA on CH1/CH2 and TIM3/TIM4. According to him this requires the following pins:

GPIOC PIN6 (HALL1)
GPIOC PIN7 (HALL2)
GPIOB PIN6 (PPM servo)
GPIOB PIN7 (fault signal for the red LED)

So it looks like my only option is the servo pin. @surfdado 's firmware currently has the servo pin mapped to an optional buzzer. Is it possible to control the buzzer off of a different GPIO instead and use the servo pin to control the WS2812 data pin? (PC5,PC15,PC14).

Basically what I’m trying to do is control a WS2812 strip in my OneWheel with the Little Focer instead of using a separate ESP32 board. I already have a high side switch and DC-DC 90V 5V 3A step down converter to handle power supply to the strip from battery.

Looks like Makers PEV doesn’t have the v3.1 with the case. Trying to get ideas for a custom heatsink. Is anyone using a simple heatsink that could be laser cut and held in place with 3d printed part. You could even bolt on additional heatsink fins and fans if needed.

You could print the box and Send Cut Send the lids.

That is what I was thinking of doing. Was looking for examples as the heatsinks I’ve seen are Cnc. Do you know if the Rev3 and Rev3.1 cases are the same. If so I guess I could start designing there from the step files that are available.

They are not the same. There were changes to both the ESCs and the boxes to accommodate them.

the CNC aluminium case is compatible for the V3 and v3.1, the flowglider printed box are not compatible.

There’s an aluminum case?

The CNC aluminum block w/ lid. It’s the kind you bought :upside_down_face:

Well thats not good. Actual battery voltage was 79.5V.
I forgot but I will lower the voltage max like you said before.

(This is on a Onewheel with poor construction causing odd behavior)

Did this happen during regen? Says that no current was being drawn at the time of the fault.

Not sure 100% but I think I was just riding around grass getting wheelslips and stuff. Riding quite mellow, I think it was more of an anomaly than a clear issue.

Shaman what’s the soonest the tronic 1000 going to be available?
