General Questions Thread 2025

Have you tried using an older vesc tool? Something like 3.02 for VESCs on 5.xx if I remember correctly.

When an update came out I wasn’t able to connect to my old Ubox at all using the app and Bluetooth, and I got that message while trying to connect using new software on the pc but older software was fine.

If older software fixes it will you vote for me?:winking_face_with_tongue:

The problem is I only have access to a MacBook and can’t run an emulator.

Oh can you not download from the vesc archive links? I believe you can get the old apps for mobile on android but cant on iPhones.

Well the older versions don’t have a Mac link and I don’t have a PC, and I am on the 6.06 on my mobile Vesc tool I think, or whatever the newest is.

I’m not able to check what’s included in this on mobile right now but does this one help? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sZ1WSvB3DrL1TpDEd6YL11mj_sv5sCb1/view?usp=drive_link

Should be vesc tool 3.01 for 5.03

With my phone at least it says this, I have an iPhone. I will check on my Mac

@CarelessAquarist tried opening the file you shared on my Mac, doesn’t work. Which I guess makes sense bc those were windows files.

What was the inciting incident that put the Spintend in this state to begin with? Think something fried?

Also from what I see this is a dual model with two individual sides - are both USB C ports/sides unresponsive like this?

Well I got this guy second hand but as far as I know there was no “incident”, just hasn’t been used in a couple years so old firmware. And yep both sides unresponsive.

Oh I see so you haven’t had it use before - yeah that’s a harder to know situ. Guess trying old VESC tool versions is the easiest route if you can get access to computers that can run them.

There’s also direct flashing with SWD / ST Link which should be possible on a Mac and you can directly load the latest spintend specific firmware that way.

Is there any difference in belts or should I look for certain brands? I have a few belts and noticed some are more stiff while others are very flexible and easier to adjust the motor mounts.

I like vbeltguys.com belts. Just do the search with the size. It takes thousands of miles for me to blowout theirs whereas I blew meepos belts out in les than a few hundred.

Same - the ones I’ve gotten thru them have had a few different brands on them but they’ve all lasted well so far. I would say they’ve been on the stiffer side when they first come in so that may be an indicator of a more hardcore belt.

I’m struggling to cut these bushings flat. It’s hard because they are such a soft and squishy material. 3dservisas doesnt sell bushings anymore so I need to cut Onsra ones.

Is this ok or will it be much worse for centreing/speed wobbles?

edit: is melting a bunch of hot glue on and then squishing down the bushing an acceptable solution?

A belt sander should do quick work. I’d wear a mask…

Freeze the bushings before you work on them

That’s a great idea! Putting it into my pocket for later

I would need to find a decent way to hold it at 90 degrees because I probably wouldn’t be able to get it right using just even pressure. I wonder if a lathe would cut or just squish it around a bit.

I put this bushing in -21c freezer for >5 hours and I can still squish it, but I think it’s a little firmer. I’m glad it didn’t freeze solid because I ride in below freezing temperatures sometimes.

I’ve stuck a wood dowel from a foam paint brush handle into a bushing and used a Japanese flush cut pull saw to cut slices from a barrell bushing. Was pretty easy to cut it square.

Maybe that doesn’t work for polyurethane then. It’s an old trick for working with rubber.
