General Questions Thread 2025

I am experiencing a continued throttle after a wheelie on my trampa. Currently I am using a amazon mini remote.
My vesc is a stormcore set conservatively at 65 motor amps per side, and 30 batt amps per side. The battery is a 12s3p 40t with a discharge bms capable of 60 amps.

Am I throwing a fualt on the stormcore or possibly the bms? Or would this be a remote/transmitter issue?

This seems to happen randomly but only after wheelies.

Thanks

I’d check the wiring of the receiver to make sure everything is good. Sounds like it might be a half broken cable there

Thanks, ill take a look. I am fairly confident in the jst plug. Its one of those 2.4ghz receivers with the 3 prong. It is probably wiggling loose. Is it a bad idea to silicone it?

Probably have to do a continuity test on the cable to be safe.

What would happen if the antenna was near/covered by the stormcore?

That looks like it’s pretty much not connected at all.

Adding glue would be a good idea to make sure it doesn’t disconnect

A broken or loose white wire can cause exactly that symptom. That symptom may also have other possible causes. Sometimes they will still work if the white wire is broken but still in physical proximity, but exhibit weird effects like that, and a wheelie can physically shift things around, causing it to happen at that time.

The heat shrink doesnt go to the end of the plug, because the pins interfere with the thickness

Its plugged in as far as she goes

Ooh it’s the other ports that made it look like it’s barely attached. Nevermind what i said then, you can still add a dab of hot glue on there though.

I switched to my vx1 for now. Im going to see if that gives me the problem. Hopefully the mini remote receiver will work better on a build I dont wheelie. Side note the vx series has a good throttle curve but I like the idea of only one mode on the mini remote.

Im going out later today and will def be back here if the problem persists.

you could put vesc tool in remote calibration mode. (not the wizard)

(temporarily set drive mode to “off”. (instead of current/smart reverse/hyst reverse … what ever it’s set to. )

then you can use it as a signal viewer.

hold some throttle, and wiggle things around. at the receiver. shake the remote. see if you can find something affecting it.

Great idea. Im always worried about wiggling things when the board is on. Ill probably do this when I set up the mini remote on another build.

I thought it might be a current fualt that is somehow resorting to last input. But the mini remote does have some wiggle potential.

Anyone know the store that sells the metal replacement throttles for the vx4 remote? I might habe just lost my remote in a lyft so I could need to buy a new remote and replacement throttle :sob:

Yes, that is it, thank you so much!

The driver says my bag will be returned but I want to be prepared in case it isn’t /also know how much to bribe him with to get it back if needed

Flipsky sells a VX4 Pro now with a hall sensor throttle instead of the crappy pot in the original VX4. Cheaper than VX4 + 3DS mod and no having to open it up and modify it, though the 3DS wheel has a good physical feel to it

I noticed that a month ago when considering buying a new remote for my incomplete 2nd board. I’m just used to the metal throttle wheel and like it.

Thankfully the passenger after ne didn’t notice or care too look at my bag. It did make an $8 ride cost $41 due to the lost item fee but my cards, ID, bose earbuds, tools, and remote were in there. The cards, ID, and tools would have been annoying to replace but not the end of the world. I have two sets of earbuds bc of weird return stuff that happened with defective ones before.

The remote was the worst thing I could have lost tbh and could have fallen out the easiest too. So I’m glad it didn’t

Glad you got it back. Would have mega sucked to lose all that stuff
