General Questions Thread 2025

Damn they were pricey and unobtainium now!!

I’ve also got a set of bergmeister tires/tubes.

I might consider selling these

Bergmeisters were good but a weird 3 spoke pattern so not compatible with a lot of stuff.

There was a golden age of compatibility in esk8 where vendors and community members used to make parts that allowed mixing and matching but those days are long gone.

I would keep em.. never know when you might need them or decide to use them.. then again im a hoarder so dont listen to me

Sorry I don’t have the berg hubs, I’ve got a set of tires, but I could include a set of rockstar 2s.

Yeah compatibility can be really annoying with these newer parts.

 just trying to make back some cash

There are 3 old Trampas *near me going for around €800. Also some spare motors, turning sk8 motors and an MBS deck included. I think one is 10S6P another is 10S16P.

I wouldn’t take money before collecting them but would anyone want one *for €300 ideally someone in Ireland, @mr.shiteside you can have a discount. And does anyone know how best to ship batteries?

I love my esk8 but I could do with something for short trips which doesn’t need to be carried over any bump larger than a marble.

Has anyone tried the new update and knows what some of the “configuration parameters” and things are?

Revitalizing some Apex type PKP baseplates - What are these type of kingpins with an oblong head called and where do I look to get them? My initial google search just pulled up the hex head and press fit type.

I need four of them too. @BigBen mentioned having a small batch made but not sure if it’s still in the works.

Ah I see, didn’t expect them to be custom - if they’re not out there to get easily hopefully a regular hex head will work or at least be wider, not thinner than needed at the head so it could be ground down - anyone done that swap?

I just checked Trampa’s site. They use a 3/8 bolt on their IR trucks. Sure enough it fits perfectly in the Apex baseplate. Should be easy enough to get one that’s fine thread grade 8 or stronger at the right length.

Thanks! I didn’t have any hex 3/8 bolts to do that test - 2 3/4 inch is the length needed for mine - to note for anyone who might read this post mine are Moon prototype PKP baseplates not Apex ones so they might have a different spec on length.

What’s the best way to run wires on a top mounted enclosure setup? I’m building my first mtb setup and have some motor wire extenders and hall sensors since my box is right dead in the middle so I had to extend it, my only idea is to drill 2 holes right next to the box and run the wires from underneath with rubber grommets but I’m not sure if that’ll sacrifice deck integrity

Is there any way to force Vesc tool to connect with older firmware’s? I just bought a DV6s with 5.03 firmware and the mobile app won’t connect because the “firmware is old”. I don’t really wanna update the firmware if I don’t absolutely have to.

Idk about the mobile app, but your best bet is using Precompiled VESC Tool Archive and finding the appropriate version there if you don’t want to update the firmware. I think some older MakerXs use custom firmware, but I would assume the versions still match, and you can use the regular tool as long as you don’t mess with the firmware.

As long as you don’t get crazy with the holes drilling through should be fine. Get a little sealant on the deck after drilling to keep moisture out and it should be fine.

Ive seen riser pads with channels under the feet done as well as routing a channel across the top or bottom of the deck to run the wires also but that’s beyond my tooling or experience.

Ive also seen the cables routed over bindings - just make sure to tidy up all the cables and secure them well - dont want to get snagged on anything

It was only gonna be 2 holes, just big enough to get the motor wires and hall sensors through, should I spray some clear coat into the holes so it’s sealed or use something else, I was gonna put the grommets in either way so it has a more finished look and no chance of the wires rubbing on the deck, I’m just going with the easiest option😂thanks on the response tho

yeah id be using mobile app. I have no problem tuning/programming on the computer but i dont want to open my board up every time I change a setting

is it doing a “warning too old”. and then connect and let you adjust settings?
or is it not letting you connect? I can connect to 5.03 from whatever version I have of vesc_tool on ios.

it comes up the message “your firmware is too old” then disconnects from the vesc. I have had it do the same thing for years exactly once when connecting each but never more than that where it wont let me in at all.
