Beginner Question Thread! 2023 Edition

@longhairedboy (or @jamie ).

can you change the title of this thread to reflect it’s long life.

I might as well use this thread for my question :person_shrugging:

Context:
I have a blown DC converter.
Turn signals integrated into handles.
You click, it sends signal to controller.
Controller then sends 5v signal to DC converter for 10 seconds.
DC converter then sends 12v to led until signal changes to 0v.

Question:
Can I use that 5v signal with a boost converter at 12v to directly turn on led whenever I click the button on handle?
The original DC converter is unobtanium…flashers are my last step to reviving all the lights

I’m having trouble posting again I guess I just deleted my own post but I’m looking for some advice on my bill for this battery. I’m trying to do 14 S4P I need it to fit in the enclosure that I have. I’m just really not sure the layout of it. Hopefully this is you know looks OK. I believe it’s how you set up the group and it’s my second time so if you could look it over anybody and you know, tell me where to if it does work where should I place my fish paper do I need to isolate each group with fish paper also where to put my nickel strips at?

Looks like you can do it with stacked offset 4p groups just as you have laid out.

So I just moved to a place with an unheated garage separate from my house. This past week, battery packs have been started dropping into the high 40s. I know you’re not supposed to charge anywhere below 0ºC (I’d bring the pack up to room temp prior to charging if I do end up riding in colder weather), but in terms of general storage, is it ok to leave them out in the garage at storage voltage during the winter or should I bring them in? They’re all either P42A packs or P42B packs, which are rated to -40ºC for discharge.

Pretty graphs for reference.

This post is extremely useful but was wondering if anyone had any practical experience leaving boards in 0º-10ºF temps.

Ok I feel like this just doesn’t seem right but idk I didn’t have enough space to runny them the way I normally do which is down and back. I’m also probably missing something that is clearly o obvious like I normally do. Here is to clarify so I know you know what I’m talking about doing

I was going to cut these where the colors are

Check the datasheets to be sure but every cell I’ve seen is rated to -20°C or lower during storage. If those two cells are rated to -40°C for discharge then they’re probably also rated that for storage.

Is there any companies that make custom sized axles? I got 220 BN trucks and I got a discovery FE wheel with a pulley that has a bearing inside. Theres not enough room on the axle to slap on the nut to tighten it

Datasheets for both unfortunately only cover temps for “charging” and “discharging”; nothing really specified for storage.

I hate that they call those “datasheets”. They’re just short spec sheets. The full datasheets are about 15 pages.

Weird…the full datasheet doesn’t have a storage temp other than “<23°C”. Sorry to send you on a wild goose chase.

I guess just use the other temp specs. It’s -20°C for charge and -40°C for discharge so a conservative approach would be -20°C limit for storage, otherwise -40°C.

This definitely seems like a noob question to me. Is the power measurement on rt data calculated for each separate vesc? Or is it total power of both vescs? (Using Stormcore 60D).

I would be wary of using the 5v signal as it may not have the capacity to run lights. If it is an I/0 output it probably doesn’t have more than just a few milliamps and the light and buck will draw too much and mess it up.

get a controlled buck converter that takes a 5v logic on/off signal but is fed from your other 12v or full battery voltage.

Hey kids.

Where can I find an APK for Vesc tool 6.02 to install on my Android phone?

6.05 might fuck up my onewheel…

EDIT.
Found in the onewheel Vesc discord.

Is there a good US based battery builder? The builder thread seems to be outdated.

There are so many I don’t even know where to start, SKP? Duck? @Pecos built me a great pack

Is SKP Skyartpower? Because they just had a fire.
Is Duck still doing packs?
I’ll check out Pecos.

The fire wasn’t their fault. I’m sure @skyart will build you a Pack
