I saw a show I think on travel channel, these folks that take abandon rail rides on bikes. The concept looked super cool, and the views were great.
Thanks, I had assumed Metr required the separate bluetooth dongle. If it works with the built in BT, that’s perfect!
Nope. Needs the metr bt
Bummer, looks like I’m stuck with VESC tool for now.
They’re like 40 quid i think, but i can’t justify spending that money for something i won’t really use
It definitely can be done natively given the VESC tool has the capability, but I have no clue how it pulls all the data since the app is closed source. I’ve got all these outdated smartphones lying around, and they’ve got more than enough processing power and capabilities to substitute as a Davega or Metr. The VESC tool works, but the RT display is terrible for mounting on a board and seeing the stats quickly since everything’s tiny.
Davega x is server side licensed and closed source, og davega is open source so more than welcome to adapt it to something.
Metr is closed source and quite a bit more performant receiver wise than a regular nrf bluetooth. It was made compatible to vesc tool, vesc wand and so on because people wanted it.
Soo, yeah, it can be done technically, but you’re not getting source files to modify to your will anytime soon
Friend has one cnc’d out of aluminum. It looks good but has many key problems.
1.Weight, even with all weight saving additions, it still weighs + 4 kilos.
2.You can’t put your feet in middle:
Deck is slightly flexible, but you can’t put your feet in the middle, otherwise it bends permanently. And even with all the precautions to no step in middle it still bends. Workaround we considered was adding spring steel braces hidden underneath the deck, but you need new version for that.
3.Elasticity: Got into accident past summer where I bailed off the board. Board hit the curb, and stator snapped off in one of the motors. The deck has 0 give, so every accident or rough patch treats motors mercilessly.
4.Looks: It looks dank, not gonna lie. Everyone turns their head back constantly.
I had a dream last night where I was buying stuff at a real-life esk8 parts store, and they had this interesting tape/epoxy combo:
There was a single syringe tube with 2 valves: 1 valve to open the tupe for applying, and another valve for letting pressurized gas at the other then squeeze the epoxy out from behind. (Let’s ignore that part because it makes no sense) Then in the package was a roll of transparent tape, and I’m guessing that the tape had the 2nd-part of the epoxy built into it.
So you could use the epoxy in the syringe to fill up a crack, and then apply the tape over it to start the hardening process.
No idea if that’s physically possible, but in my dream I was impressed
Move the truck location to the kicktails
and make a mini mountain board out of a traditional deck? Would that work??I should have know Kami j would have made one already!! That’s awesome!
I want to skateboard with a hang glider like thing attached to my body. Effectively going for an esk8 kiteboard effect. Would love to be able to float through the air when jumping.
Make a clear helmet visor that acts like that transitions glasses material so it auto tints in bright light and stops shading later on.
this should be retractable. you could get up to 50mph on your board hit a button on your remote and take off!
Now you’re speaking my language!
cough
Basically you guys want a Nolan helmet with a retractable sun visor
I believe other companies do it too but since I have one I can advocate for its comfort!
Is this a weird idea? The changing geometry might be quite weird… or maybe not if its not too aggressive by using a stiff spring? Keep thinking about it - super simple mock up.
My neighbor has one like this with the flip down shade and I do like the idea.
Probably not any more so than how a flexy deck would behave, only here you have two defined pivot points rather than the entire deck bending.
