Thanks for the tip! I will look into them.
Internally gear was not an actual requirement it was just seemed straightforward as we always fighting with space constraint. This way the gearbox wouldn’t use any precious extra space
The MBS 95X complete comes with 9" tires which is great, but also comes with the brake kit which is normally superfluous for us. So I’m thinking, what if I install the brakes on the front wheels? I’d cut the cable down and attach the trigger to somewhere on the front of the board. If I lose electronic brakes, I can crouch down and pull what’s essentially the handbrake.
Do you want to lug around another 2kg of components on your board?
How would you brake while crouching?
So my thought is to attach the handle to the front of the deck somewhere, probably where the truck mount is. That way it’s out of the way during regular use, and is difficult to accidentally hit. Then you can just reach down and pull the lever if you need mechanical brakes for any reason.
I did this exactly and it worked great. I took it off because my brakes were more than strong enough and I put lights up front but it definitely worked.
Maybe drag it through the back, so you can hold on to it as you brake? The general problem with front brakes is that they’re self sustaining, meaning that braking pushes your body to the front that applies more downforce, which result in more brake potential and so on
i recommand getting one of these, u can set the time for how long to charge and it shows how much is left with leds, plug ur board and leave it safely!
We need a Vesc setting that can play music with the motors. Drones have been doing that for years now.
Imagine how loud that would be with our big motors.
Why aren’t there more metal decks made? Is it a weight/cost thing or an eventual fatigue thing?
Some type of servo / actuator system that tightens the suspension correlated to the boards speed. Very stiff at high speeds, but quite flexible and easily turned at low speeds…
I’d say time, then weight. Cost isn’t that much different for raw materials if you’re using 6061 aluminum and such. A little more expensive, but compared to an overall price point of $2K the raw materials aren’t a big component of the cost.
I’m making an aluminum deck at the moment, but since I don’t have heavy machinery the milling is taking days to accomplish… Probably could make several plywood laminate boards by now… Hopefully this aluminum deck wlll work out!
You need to find a really really long mountain road i gess
was in the alps a couple years back cycling and we were going down one mountain pass and then up another. the pass we went down was over 50km long and went down nearly 2k meters
bet you could get at least 20% going down there on full brakes
Maybe stupid but to me would be cool, make hubs that can ride on train track for the scenic abandon tracks, they already make bikes that do it, way more fun to ESK8 them.
Has anyone built some sort of telemetry Android app that connects up with Bluetooth? I want to throw one of my old unused phones onto my board like a Davega, and while the VESC app technically works, the RT display is poorly laid out for this purpose. I don’t really care for VESC control, just want to see the RT data and maybe do some logging.
Alternatively if there’s a way to get that data via API or something, I could probably code up an app. It’s a bit past my skill level though.
Who else read butthole?
Well let’s see, for android we have:
-metr
-vesc tool logging + windows tool to see logs like a stock trading page
-???
Seems like all the new kids on the block are flocking over on ios with the development
That is awesome, I definitely sign up to ride!
Right? Would be an awesome way to travel around old lines smoothly.
