I like what he did here @6:13, shame he never followed up on the idea. The perfectly spaced cylinder trick was pretty much foolproof if youre not sitting directly in deep puddle. The endcaps leave some space for cooling on the cylinder, but current throttling is required. Maybe metal endcaps with thermal paste? There is plenty of air moving inside of motor.
Method I myself have considered is putting similar cylinder arround motorgap, and add removable endcaps, that way I can put them on in bad weather where there is plenty of water and ambient temperature is low arround to cool motors, and have them removed when its hot and dry outside to take advantage of outside air cooling.
Mesh sounds cool, but it would restrict the airflow in motor, making it a hybrid solution, with average performance.
Ideally motor should be taking air from long cavity where water can go down and would allways be blown out with geometry of motor, that would be dream solution of mine.
There’s only one way to fix the trash situation, global warming, and prison reform. Volcanoes. Trust me I’m a professional. And quit sucking sand out of the ocean man. Come the hell on. That’s all.
Werewolf queen! The answer is always werewolf queen!
A remote in a ring (like Jay Kay) maybe with display on top
Some kind of digital jewelry from where it could be located
Just simple and James Bond 2 small tiny buttons maybe if possible, but dont is a must have…This is my ring.

Make belt pulleys have cutouts like this so they don’t stretch and fail with snow/mud/etc. Maybe a rock could slip out too.
Sorry if this has been mentioned already… so DJI drones run on “intelligent flight batteries” which are lithium based im pretty sure. The reason they are called intelligent is because I believe after two or three days of not being used, they go into a self discharge mode in order to adjust to safe/storage voltage for the battery prolonging their lifetimes significantly.
Has this feature been discussed for our community at all by chance?
there are prebuilt board that has this feature already, but i don’t think any of the diy board has this built in
i don’t see the need of it, but i can be wrong
I love the concept but I’m wondering if it would actually contribute to a noticeably longer pack life considering the hard use esk8 packs experience.
Just not recharging after a ride, and charging just before riding, can do much of the same thing too. We’d have to charge just before riding anyway if using this feature.
Having said all this I would think some clever programming of the balancing circuit in a smart BMS could do the storage discharge?
FlexiBMS already does that, you configure the amount of time without use and it will discharge to a set voltage after that, will take a looooooong time, but given the right conditions it’s better than leave fully charged for a few months
Excellent! I missed seeing that when I looked at the feature set.
Yea…days to discharge but, I agree, if leaving a pack alone for months it’s a good idea. For a week or two, not worth it IMO.
The metr modules has a discharge mode. Its not automatic but it can be nice to at least discharge it a little bit if you can’t ride for ne next time. It turns the motors on without moving to discharge to a set voltage.
Huh? Just a little dribble of voltage to move some current but not spin the motors at all?
Yeah, foc_openloop, it recirculates a large amount of current on the windings without doing useful work
LOL, that’s brilliant.
I’ve put fiberglass around the edges of the ABS especially where the boltholes are.
So I am playing with the idea of building a speedboard. Or something similar. And I was thinking why not do something unusual and put an internally geared hub into the rear wheel. I found some fixed versions so it wouldn’t freewheel and motor would always be connected to wheel.
Tell me guys why this is a bad idea. What comes to my mind:
- stuff just became much more error prone, complexity level just went through the roof
- deck might throw me off on gear change
- when changing to lower gear, motor would spin much faster not sure how esc would act
- the power I want to push through this would break the inside of the hub on the second aggressive acceleration
At this point this is just a weird idea I never seen anywhere before and I am curious what you guys are thinking.
How would u change gear?
What’s a handy large resistance I could use to discharge a single cell? Want to then charge it and see how much energy it can hold from the lowest state of charge. My toaster? Mine seems too digital and worried I’ll break it.
I’ve seen 2-4 speed gearboxes used in FRC robotics competitions. Not internally geared, but could be worth looking into as functionally it behaves the same way with an ESC and electric motor being wirelessly controlled. There’s a lot more documentation on them as well.
Some stepper motor and an esp32.
I am currently working on a telemetry/remote module for my own fun. I could use that for pulling the bowden for the gear change.
