Weird theories and ideas thread! any ideas welcome

This guy already did it. It’s a great idea

Ive thought about that and realized it would probably just be cheaper, easier, and more efficient to just add a second motor

correct me if i’m wrong but won’t that require a lot more current to produce the same torque? so a lot more losses for the same thrust, reducing the efficiency? doesn’t it work by having the pulses of armature current be slightly out of phase with the rotor?

i was thinking increasing the speed of the motor beyond battery voltage * kv by incorporating a boost converter circuit into a vesc could actually improve the overall vehicle efficiency, by allowing people to use a higher gear ratio for the same top speed with the same battery.

raising the gear ratio would ordinarily decrease the motor current it takes for a certain thrust, at the cost of reduced top speed, but switching on the boost converter circuit when no load speed would ordinarily be reached would mean the rider could still have their original top speed and beyond. like afterburners.

above no load speed the battery current would be higher than the motor current which is a reversal of the usual scenario.

Anyone wants to get one of these magnet powered lights and mount next to their motors?

This.

Thought about wearing a whistle but that doesn’t work with a full-face helmet

@amanuelamanuel have a look at the soon to come ttl

Rgb light controller (includes a port for a horn)

Although I belong to the PC master race, I never really cared for RGB. Def cool concept though!

it’s not just rgb. It can control headlights and give you an active tail light along with a horn. Just like a pc, you make it what you want it to be

It integrates with your vesc to pull some data and respond accordingly so it’s “smart” to a degree.

i.e. when you brake, you can have the tail lights turn on. when you brake harder, have them flash.

i.e.2 you can set the underglow color to change hue or intensity with acceleration.

Still working on setting mine up, ran in to an issue I’m debugging but looking forward to it. Sad I didn’t get it working by halloween.

I just skimmed through the thread, was quite a read. That does sounds interesting though. I’ll give it a closer read!

I just had an idea for a push-to-start switch with a very specific use.

As everyone knows, e-switches built into BMSes are a bulletproof way of turning your board on and off. I know flipsky now has an anti-spark switch that won’t die from overheated mosfets, but shit’s expensive yo.

I think many people would find it useful to have a cheap push-to-start switch, that connected to your BMS to toggle the power on and off. 2 wires to the motor phase wires to detect when you push, and 2 wires to the BMS, in place of a regular button. Would you be interested in such a thing?

  • Yes
  • No, existing options suit me fine

Edit: could have 2 additional wires that you could connect to the 2nd channel on your receiver to turn off the board with your remote :open_mouth:

you’ve seen those kidz lately with metal extensions on small skateboards… what happens if we properly engineer spring-steel extensions on ultra stiff decks and get the benefits of suspension and super stiff decks to add batteries and electronics on tiny skateboards…

this is my xmas gift to ya’all…

Think about it… tune-able plates that can be added or subtracted to tune your suspension, damping…none… but spriong… we got it! we’ll work on damping after the law suits are settled…

as you were

I have one…maybe the time has come to make something like a sepparate mcu for the boards?
Something that would control lights, give stats, would allow to plug in a horn, lately I have felt a need for an actual alarm system for the board…Something like Davega Pro maybe?

What about making a mental dd set with this motor

It wouldn’t even be a mental price if you know what you are doing

Two of these which the screw end bolts onto the truck and you make a specialised bearing for the wheel that has a slight hole for where the motor keyway can go into and you locative the bearing down onto the shaft

What do you guys think and I am not sure whether both shafts spin or only a single one does

This has been mentioned a bit in @linny’s stealth board thread but I’ve really liked the idea of a new type of hybrid esk8 that is a cross between a push board and a true esk8.

The idea is to have essentially a push skateboard with a one button remote in your hand. There is no electronic braking built in to the system, foot braking only. You push up to whatever speed you like while holding the button down and it acts as cruise control. This will ONLY match your top push speed. This button will not accelerate you at all. When you let go of the button, it goes back to a free-coasting push board.

Pros:

  • Remote could be tiny. It only needs to send one salient command: On or off. It would be awesome if it could be ring sized eventually.
  • The motor/motors wouldn’t need to be powerful. I imagine a 250W motor would be plenty to keep you coasting (remember, no acceleration bonus).
  • Wouldn’t need a huge battery. Acceleration from stop is a huge drain.
  • Board could be super stealthy.
  • Esc wouldn’t need to be too “smart” and would hopefully keep cost down.
  • Let’s you still push the board around when you want to.

Concerns:

  • No dedicated remote exists yet. Cruise control can be implemented in firefly and vesc.
  • Rolling resistance needs to be minimum. Since the board has no brakes, a one way ratcheting transmission system would be ideal. Like most bikes can’t pedal backwards, only forwards.
  • Please add more, there has to be lots of problems I’m not accounting for.

I’m just an idea guy… I lack the programming capabilities to make this work. I do feel that this product could be made with one motor, a small battery, and be very fun and affordable. Anyone want to play around with this concept over the winter with me?

Forewarning, if I don’t get positive feedback here I’m making a dedicated thread :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

@Venom121212 There’s a core difference between your idea and the aforementioned one. You would like there to be a remote for the cruise control, whereas in the other, they are trying to fully eliminate the remote for ultimate stealth with cops. This means your goal is so much easier to reach as it wouldnt require the same level of AI or coding  Do you have an idea of how @Wajdi implemented the cc on his remote? The remote had a momentary switch at the top that could be use for either cc, killswitch or reverse.

I do not. But I am hoping enough people take interest that can shed light on how easily this can be achieved. It seems like a pretty basic system all set up around the receiver/esc implementing one seemingly-simple command.

I feel like if an esc existed specifically for this product, the entire thing could be made for ~$300-400.

I just want an “endless” electric assisted push board.
