THE New Go-FOC DV4s

Current is set to 35 amps per motor. The max motor current theory could make sense for the uphill start issue.

The issue of low power/ low torque after riding doesn’t. I’m thinking maybe it’s a temp cutoff issue. Either the motors are getting warm and the esc is cutting power or the esc is getting warm and cutting power. There is not extra heat sink mounted to it fyi, just the stock aluminum case.

Yeah sorry read back through your other comments/settings. Unlikely you’d hit absolute max unless you have it set too low.

Do these support auto-turnoff? @YUTW123

Yes, and you can set the auto shutdown time on VESC TOOL. And support push to start.

Sweet. I plan on running these for 4wd. Any reason I shouldn’t? Anything I should be aware of?

Quick field report / torture test… I installed the DV4s into a MTB build and set the motor amps to 100A per side. It’s powered off a 12s lipo and was placed into an enclosure with no air circulation.

On Saturday I took my daughter on a 1.5 hour ride in 80’ F temperatures. It was a pretty aggressive pace for the whole ride, but was able to cover all kinds of terrain (pavement, dirt, gravel, cobblestone, etc.). The DV4s took the beating just fine and never got hot to the touch. I’m very pleased with how well this thing performs.

That’s actually fairly impressive. 100a is a great standard for mid tier boards, and the price and size of this are perfect for that

meanwhile china board doesn’t even hit 70 constant :joy:

100A phase per side, what about battery amps per side?

I don’t remember what I set the battery to. It’s cranked up though, because 12,000mah lipo.

Do you have metr/robo logs?

Unfortunately no

@YUTW123 I’ve already sent an email with more details but I’m experiencing abs_over_current faults. It only happens on one side and when I either accelerate or brake hard enough.

I have very conservative settings and I know the board already works as my DV4S is a replacement ESC. I also tried swapping sides/motors and the side that ‘dies’ is consistent.

I hope you or your team can see my email and help me resolve this issue.

Do both sides of your ESC have ABS max current set to a sane value? Running motor detectiong changes it to 2x detected motor current these days, which is really dumb.

130A, same with my other boards.

The motors are only automagically set to ~42A either way.

What do you leave it at?

Whatever hardware default says it should be; usually 150A.

Hello, are you the one who use 5055 motor with 270kv and no Sensors ?
I think the motor of this parameter is not suitable for VESC4, I suggest using 63 diameter motor and the KV value about 170.
You can try to reduce the current.

@YUTW123 Does the 50A battery rating still stand if I have it mounted to a 1.5kg aluminium heatsink with thermal paste? Temperature is not an issue, currently at 70A motor 40A battery my external heatsink is not even getting warm

Yes. However, I’ve used other VESC4’s before and they seemed fine.

The current settings are already lower than what I’ve used before.

I’m also aware of the VESC4 limitation with 270kv motors at 10s and reducedy ERPM to <60,000 (59,000)
