The Muckraker re-build & race progress - 4WD race board - octopus deck w/stooge track pack

Its already starting to happen here in Perth. @JeffyJ has 2 different setups tailored to different uses

They definitely don’t pick up as much dust or grit as the brps and have a flatter profile so Id still say worth a try. But if you reckon the nylon tyres are the go maybe the exway venators or the meepo tubeless.

I had a few laps on a mates board on exway venators at local indoor kart track, polished concrete floor. They felt super grippy :ok_hand:

I know @CARVECRAFT will be happy to hear this. He has a set coming for his new 12s8p race build on another octopus deck. Cant wait to see it

Slight improvements t-racing last night, in an attempt to reclaim my number#1 position on the ladder, but @JeffyJ sure made a huge dent in his previous times and has made it a big task for me

Got a new PB on the toeside, but no improvements on the heelside. Getting very consistent mid to low 13 second laps now which is a huge improvement from just a couple of months ago. Im getting more keen to give the chicago track a real proper go, but will likely carry on focusing on T race for at least the rest of the year.

New gears from @MoeStooge arriving soon, will be going from 18:67 to having two racing gear options with the new 22T pinion gears-

22:67 (approx 77km/h top speed) and 22:78 (approx 65km/h top speed)

Next big expense on the raceboard might be a battery upgrade… not sure if i can afford it before eks8con though

Do you mind sharing what vesc settings you use ? Unsure if I should use the same ones from my stormcore 100 a

Yeah for sure…

I currently have 2x DV6

Rear:
105A per motor (possibly 110A now, cant remember)

Front:
Front 70A per motor

Brake currents are around -70A on the rear and -35A on the front (again, been a while since ive adjusted these so they might be slightly different values)

50 battery amps per motor on the rear, 20 per motor on the front
150A absolute max current (limited by my 12s6p battery)

Throttle expo at about 15% from memory
Throttle deadband down to 4%

Anything I missed or you needed to know??

In approx 4 weeks ill be getting a battery upgrade, courtesy of @Marsen. The 12s8p will be made of molicel P45B cells giving me a huge increase in current available to draw. Ill also be upgrading the rear ESC to a DV6 pro. I will update you with my ESC settings once the upgrade is complete

what made you go 12s instead of 18 ?
thanks for sharing the info

Absolute max shouldn’t be limited by your battery right? Thats just something we set to deal with spikes these days as far as I understand. Your 50 rear and 20 front battery amps is still within your battery limit. You could up that more if you wanted.

For instance on only 4p my absolute max is set to 250a.

I was always under the assumption that absolute max was limited by the battery and thats why its predetermined in vesc tool, but here i am learning something new! Thanks!

Max out your abs overcurrent. That’s there to protect the esc. Keeping it too low will cause faults as a result of small transients/spikes, which is not dangerous to the esc.

Isn’t it just double your motor detection or thereabouts? I get truncated parameter errors above 160 on 5.3

A few reasons…

@JeffyJ had already experienced some cutouts on 16s, we never came to the conclusion of what was going wrong, but we assumed it was possibly to do with the UBOX.

Speaking of UBOX, I was one of the handful of people that had the wonderful experience of the UBOX fires when they were first released with the phase filters ON as a preset. Within the first 5km of my test ride on the 18s the ubox caught fire and threw me off the board on a dirt track. The replacement ubox almost burnt my workshop down.

Obviously the above issues likely have very little to do with the configuration of the battery but PTSD is a thing… ive ridden a couple of 18s boards more recently and admittedly they do feel good but my racer has been reliable.

Ever since switching to MakerX escs and keeping the battery configuration to 12s ive been happy. Ive only recently hit my ceiling with what the 12s6p can give me and i feel im really starting to thrash that battery too much with all this t-racing… so im looking forward to the upgrade. I need more low end acceleration which is where (im hoping) the extra amps from the added P packs will help me

It varies based on which ESC you’re using. Press the default button, then apply.

How much could those DV6 handle in terms of motor amps. I imagine more than 110 per side? I’d look into upping that as well for more low end torque.

I believe they can handle more, however ill have the dv6 pro installed in a few weeks so i wont have to stress the dv6.

Yeah I’ve had nothing but esc issues, even my stormcore 100+ on 18s6p, and my V5 kastle `esc.

Hoping maker X esc side solve those issues, working for Morgan so far.

Smart on you to stay with reliability, components failing always makes me want to stick with acoustic downhill.

As soon as something goes wrong with the setup, my confidence gets knocked. If i want to keep racing and progressing I gotta stick with reliability

Yes this for sure. My confidence rocked so bad by multiple cutouts on 16s i sold everything and started again! Now I’m toying with going back to 16s. I’m a slow learner I think

Chicago session tonight with @JeffyJ resulted in a few new PBs

Tas:
Counter clockwise 27.39
Clockwise 27.75
(I believe that bumps me up to #5 on the chicago eskate list )

Jeff
Counter clockwise 26.32
Clockwise 27.60

Definitely missing out on that much needed acceleration coming out of the sharp turns, especially the top hairpin. And im topping out my speed on the straight, so its solidified my decision to change this gearing out. Will just have to keep chipping away until they arrive from the US. I think the BRP delay is whats holding it up… understandable given their circumstances.
