Now you’re thinking with portals.

oh they have a 13S one too.
oh BTW you can use the same ones for lifepo4 right? just changing settings?
Whoa, whoa, whoa…
I think I know what SOME of those things are…
I figured I’d post this since it’s a good look into what went into the original Onewheel batteries. This is a rebuild I did for a friend’s Onewheel+ battery. The battery is the same as the original V1 Onewheel. It used a 16s1p pack with A123 LiFePo4 26650 cells. Since they were bought up and renamed, the new build has the same cells, just branded LithiumWerks. Taking it apart, I was a bit surprised at how simple the build was. Not that much going on in terms of insulation, and the nickel strip connections felt like 0.1mm. Maybe 0.15, but I’m not sure. It was pretty flimsy. Also…the soldering on the main leads to the nickel strip was a bit sloppy. But oh well! It worked for years!
Now to make it fresh. The pictures are in reverse order. Since I didn’t have fish paper with adhesive on both sides, I used the single adhesive and just glued the cells in place. Used 0.2mmx8mm nickel, and just swapped over the wiring harness.
My custom sticker of Big Daddy Kyle adds an extra 10 miles of range.
I just finished torturing one of those V1 packs to death, so now I have a wiring harness to make a new one with!
I want to try using something besides the A123 cells I’m not sure what yet, I might modify the battery case to be larger than the XR as it is already damaged.
I had been thinking of trying these: https://www.imrbatteries.com/hohm-tech-grown-26650-4244mah-41-1a-battery/
I’m not entirely sure, the current output is high, but with a 1p pack and everything, I’m not sure how the heat would be in actual use. I thought of doing a pack just to test it, but the price of the cells isn’t really a comfortable experimental spend.
those are not lifepo4
these are kinda the only good option that I know of
I’m not sure those would fit. The V1/Plus pack is already a tight fit…
After a short break, I’m going to build a 14s2p pack for the Plus. Been seeing those builds on the DIY OW groups and it looks very doable.
yeah the idea is to make them fit by modifying the case to make it thicker and the cell would be staggered slightly. It is super tight yeah, I would have to plan carefully.
You guys can 3D print a 1/4" gasket for the lid of the battery compartment to make it fit more cells maybe?
The Hohm Grown cells will give you decent amount of run time if used at around 15A/cell or lower. Higher than around that and the Molicel P42A will run for longer…and result in a much smaller pack.
Even at low current levels the 8% or so longer run time with the Hohm Grown cells might not be worth the extra size. You could even add another 1P of P42A’s and probably still have a smaller pack. ![]()
As mentioned though…the Hohm Grown is a different chemistry than the Lithium Werks LFP cells.
I’ve got and Ant BMS in my bike (20S7P) and it works great.
There’s an aftermarket app called VBMS that does better than the original one too.
Lots of information and settings to fuck with, and up to four (iirc) thermistors (mosfets, balance circuitry, battery 1, battery 2).
if I had a lot of flexibility in design I would go with the 16AH blue headways.
6X more capacity
Unfortunately that would need more modification to the rails to fit the battery box.
One can take the battery box from the Onewheel XR, but then you’d already have an XR.
The 14s2p mod for the Plus gets almost the range of an XR, and fits in the Plus box.
someone please sell me their broke-dick onewheel
Awesome thanks

Anyone got a 14s smart bms for sale in the US ?
hit up @kevingraehl the 16s Daly can be solder-bridged to support 14s…
I’ve “heard” he’s only stocking 16s lately as they are configurable…
EDIT:
oh you said smart… no clue, I don’t use that shit… i don’t want my esk8 smarter than me
