Typically if you run into issues, you want to replace as much as you can. If you blew apart the nickel, I’d disassemble the whole group, take a Dremel and sand down to bare steel, re wrap all the cells with compromised shrink wrap (make sure you use the plastic ring too), then put it back together

Always make sure that the areas that will be in contact with anything have some extra material to protect it, at least a layer of fish paper and kapton/heat shrink. Having adhesive between the cells is always a good option as it will prevent the nickel from taking all of the load, you can do it after the welds as long as it gets between the cells still

Make sure the connection from your foot pedal to the kweld is solid and nothing’s shorting in there. Super easy for the 2 wires to touch in there or one to come loose. I just redid my connection and soldered some bullets to remove the pedal easily and not tug those wires out of thier home


Also changed my cable length to 1.5m from 1m and everything’s working squeaky now

Just so you know, those welds are inadequate. If you can pull the tab off thay easily. No tearing of the nickel at all, it’s going to break off when in a board.

I used an xt30 on mine. Nice to be able to unplug it for sure.

The ones with the black wires coming off of it? And how can I weld them better? I’m already pretty high up on the settings of my welder; any more and I blow through the nickel sometimes

Alex raises a good point. A good weld should rip the nickel to shreds before it seperates

Make sure the tips are clean and you have a lot of pressure. Welds like that are a sign the current is low but the time is high, it generates a lot of ambient heat but not enough localized heat to weld without melting. What welder do you have?

Ive been using the Sunkko 737G. I’ve turned up the pressure knob and ive been welding at 2ms and around 80-95% of the max current. Though I only cleaned the tips once, when I first opened it up and used it.

I had a sunkko 709a and that thing was weak as shit

Make sure the tips are nice and pointy. Small contact area means more current density.

Also I would try manually pushing harder on the electrodes. Don’t rely just on the spring pressure.

Will do. I’ll grind down the tips into something sharper tomorrow.

Yeah I’ve been pushing down on the whole welder itself against the electrodes to see if I could get some better welds too. I noticed the nickel sticks a little better when I do that, and when I make consecutive welds in the same place
