The battery builders club

What I really wonder about, is having a fiber composite enclosure simply protected by a layer of UHMWPE on the outside.

A mechanically bonded scenario seems like it has promise. I use a bunch of uhmw with 3m’s 300lse. It’s good, but getting cohesive failure is tough, even with a promoter.

…that reminds me that I keep meaning to put some on my shortboard’s kick tail…

Know of any tapes I can wrap around my Trampa hangers to protect from rocks? They are taking a beating.

The LSE is an acrylic adhesive without a carrier, meant for automotive paint, iirc. You can find it on a bunch of different substrates (like the UHMWPE).

I think that stuff would honestly be your best bet. My stuff was ~1mm thick, so it doesn’t conform to anything, but if you can find something say .25mm, that might work for wrapping hangers. Haven’t tried heat forming it yet, but that might help too…

This looks about right: not 3m, but it’s ticking the boxes I mentioned:

Main gripe is that it looks like shit all the time, those long chain polymers start looking furry the first time a rock digs into them.

I’ll grab 100. Assume a few are going to be bad and maybe we’ll build a big ass 12S8P for something.

First thing i disconnected lol. Surprisingly not the worst pack I’ve seen. Only a 2p so i’m not sure what ill do with these LG 3200mah/10a cells.

Yeet them in the garbage, or make a mountain of cells with them

I think @Saturn_Corp is looking for cells to practice on

Thanks for suggestion but I’m good! I got my nickel to wire soldering skills down fairly well now thanks to your help with practice matts and all the work I put into a pack that believe it or not; works.

I think I learned a few things that I might do different in another one to make it quicker and easier and safer. It’s quite tedious work!

I love this! Any chance you could share a quick how-to with regard to the led light string.

Goddamnit. I’m not buying more cells this week. This is a very good price for these, and I expect they can be pushed beyond those numbers (BHU is always conservative with discharge ratings), I’ve seen 15-20A continuous charts on these cells.

They’re not gonna compete with 40T’s and P42As but they will probably have MUCH longer lives. Tesla cells have pretty insane longevity historically. You’ll find packs from Model S’s that are a decade old by now and had 100k miles still capable of 80% of original cap…
