is thicker wire more durable? less prone to breakage? that’s how I’ve been thinking about it.
oooh. never heard of that. sounds cool.
Yes, but depending how you do your wires it is still safe, but I use 24awg usually
wire don’t generally break
the connections do
or the insulation is worn away
or it gets crimped and crushed/cut
no wire is perfect.
that teflon insulation sounds interesting, perhaps @glyphiks will give us some deets
in some cases plastic insulation wears better, some instances silicone wire is better
silicone multi-stranded wire is always better where some movement is expected, but it’s much easier to cut, and way better thermally
the problem with wire in the joints… solder is easy and everyone thinks they can solder, but…
solder has a pretty poor performance vibrationally… the more heat, and the more solder creep up the insulation makes the wire and the joint worse
I understand this! … these days. thanks.
In most cases good small wires soldered properly will out perform big assed cheep wire
Re: teflon insulation, it’s common in Mil-spec wire, I’ve got a couple spools left over from my old job and it’s interesting stuff.
AWCwire.com has a gigantic selection of wire and cable, and while their regular prices are more suited for… industrial sized orders, they also have a bargain bin section where you can often find great deals on partially-used spools of all kinds of interesting stuff, including teflon. It’s where I got all my flat copper braid, and a couple sizes of heat shrink tubing.
would you in your opinion class all teflon insulated wire as better insulation?
or is it like all wire… know your project and pick what best suits you…
seems weird I haven’t at least run across PTFE insulated wire before…
now I gots bunch a reading… thanks @glyphiks and Ryan!!!
EDIT:
fack this is purrfect for running a noisey temp. sensor motor wire…
To be honest, i prefer silicone wire. But this stuff is super handy for battery building with space constraints.
I definitely wouldn’t use it in a high movement/flex environment.
so it’s like expensive plastic insulation… it must solder kinda like silicone insulation??
Solders more like plastic insulation, gets melty, but not as bad as plastic.
I need to buy some
for science
thanks kiddoz!!
I just bought some. I like it
Esp for balance wires
Bit tougher than silicone and has great heat resistance.
Could I get a link to corner chompers please?
Search for “crop-o-dile”
Thanks Bill unless this gets me a warning from the ISP
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=corner+chompers
leads to this which is worth noting is a different “cut” so look for the rounded corners one. and not some other fancy cut.
