yellow = burnt flux… Iso alky will take it off… I only took a glimpse… looks OK, I’d rather see more consistent solder joins but I’d say you’re pretty safe
oh yeah for sure will be isolating all that stufff. So yeah not done battery yet acually lol. Plus BMS and all that.
yeah they look poopy. How do you folks get em all perfect, little dollops of solder? @Skyart?
does that mean my irons too hot?
HEAT
I use a 75W iron set to 480 Freedomheit and a lot of solder, it makes a nice bead 90% of the time. Just don’t leave it too long
P.S. you can clean off flux by chipping it off with your finger nail or a knife, then cleaning whats left with a tooth brush and nail polish remover
a good Iron, proper pretinning, enough heat not to much, enough solder but not too much…FLUX
see where your wires are slayed out? twist and pretin those… and use something else to press the wires down except the soldering iron…
when you see unintentional splayed wires it was rushed…
EDIT:
did you scratch the nickle?
- put heat on nickle… the solder adjacent but not touching… the solder will wick towards the heat
hmmm I’m using a cheap 60W cranked all the way on GO. This is the first time I used that liquid flux, I feel like when I wasn’t using it I got those solid bulbs of solder to form. I feel like the flux thins out the solder and makes thos bulbs harder to form.
Interesting, I have been using a chunky roll of Kester 63/37 rosin core and have had good results (it leaves a lot of flux crystal residue and smokes a bit)
Have you sanded the nickel with a Dremel or sandpaper prior to soldering? And did you pre-tin the wires?
oh I didn’t do that this time. I usually do but for some reason figured "blahhh, its gettin ploped in a pool of solder, it’ll be fiiiiiiine"
woooppssy. Oh well, they’re on there good, just not pretty.
I did scuff the nickel. No pre-tin this time. Mistakes were made. Shots fired. People are talkin
yup
hah, no I didn’t rush I promise! lolol I just intentionally didn’t pre-tin. =/
Deffiently good iron helps alot, 480 and pretinning lots of heat and very fast
you skipped steps… you rushed
fight me
I have a good PACE iron I’ll use next time, just doesn’t get that hot. 700F
Ummm, ok let’s get into semantics @kook!
Rushing implies you were careless and mindless in your mistakes. This was a calculated and intentional step I omitted I do concede it was a dumb mistake.
“It was a calculated risk, but boy am I bad at math”
I dont know if 700 is hot enough
370 degrees Science? That’s like medium hot…wouldn’t touch anything beefier than 16awg at that temp
Also, I just want to say some of those poor bits of wire look like they have the wire equivalent of scoliosis…it’s not a bad thing, but it just kinda makes me sad
