I did this with some salvaged scooter batteries that went into an ebike. welded them puppies anyway. Works fine so far.

thanks @iamasalmon glad Iām not the only one.
I had bad dreams about not stopping after 2 deformed ones and reevaluating.
I think 2 things moved me forward.
anyhow āmore cutting less pullingā. and āthis deformation is badā. are decent lessons. but i do feel dumb for getting through the set without more of a change in strategy.
That sarcasm? Iāve now seen youtube hammering nickel flat to the battery because it didnāt pull off. but nickel is way softer than the steel.
Obviously sarcasm, donāt let my cunty remarks burn down your house
I wouldnāt really trust those cells to be put through much after that kind of damage, if you are going to make a pack you should do a top mount pack that is stuck with dual lock or something so if it starts to hiss you yank it by the handle and yeet it into the distance
Get a nice set of beefy needle nose like pliers and roll the nickel onto the tip like opening a tin of sardines
I feel like you could make some kind of specialized cell terminal resurfacer fairly easily.
What brings this to mind is my friend got this silly mini nail grinder for his dogs because it will freak out if you try to cut them. Combine that with something like a drill press and workholding idk just an idea.
reasonable. out of curiosity What does this type of damage do to the cell? is the thought the deformation has made it weaker and itāll blow out that side of the can?
or is it related to flatness and bad welds? because Iām still going to use it for weld practice and i kinda want that closer to real world.
hmm. that is what I was doing.
haha, quick release, nice.
I tried this, donāt do it on the (+) side.
I poofed a cell trying to roll the nickel off with some pliers, the shoulder is (-), duh.
Haha, I guess Iām luckyā¦I no shorts so far
which charger is that?
Itās a cheep C4 amazonian charge capacity checker⦠I can look it upā¦
I like the different functions on this one⦠Especially the capacity function and internal resistance checkerā¦
So far Iām pretty happy with the cells⦠But sometime tomorrow Iāll know the cell capacity
Das sum fancy pantz shitttttā¦
Most welcommeee
Glad to be of helps⦠since you be helpin every1 else
IR checker? I thought you had to have a fancy pants device for that. I want that.
looks like maybe this:
Great meeting you brother⦠Thanks for putting this together⦠And thanks for the Original Tommyās yumminess!
Iāll run some cells thru the good chargers just to back check myself⦠I just have to solder a qwik harness togetherā¦
Yup thatās the exact one I have⦠There are others similar⦠Mine doesnāt say compatable with 21700 size⦠But you can see it fits quite dandy!
If thatās the one I am thinking over it slightly overlooks the cellās voltage ex: Cell is 4.15 but is seen as 4.2
This spot welder is starting to drive me crazy. Keeps blowing holes every 3rd weld or so. I thought it was the stock pen so I got the sunkko pen and itās still having the same issue. I make sure to lightly sand the tips before use.
Anyone else whoās used this pen have any suggestions? How far should I be gapping these tips?
thanks, but Iām not actually charging the cells, except the NOR test, Iām looking for magnitudes of differences not subtle 0.05V differances, as long as the measurements are consistent, like I said above⦠Iāll bring out the high quality tools to do a sanity check.
I checked voltages, and IR and marked them down on 50 some-odd cells in 10 minutes or so⦠qwick and easy with this toolā¦
and Iām now running a full capacity NOR test on a representative sample⦠Iāll run 4 cells, and If I see deviations Iām unhappy with Iāll run 4 more⦠etc⦠etc⦠till I get enough good cells to configure and weld up into a happi-happi joy-joy pack
thereās a risk you rip or damage the negative tab connecting to the can
