Not that much of a problem as long as the braid is properly wrapped and secured, not left to flop about

Are you saying that less slack on the braid is better? (i.e. this is bad?)

Thereā€™s a happy medium. I solder my braids flat with like a 3mm allen key underneath to give it juuust a bit of slack. If you fold it too much like that, the braids will want to flare out when pushed flat and cause some strands to break. All depends how much your board will be flexing.

Howā€™s it looking?

I feel like you should aim to have the entire area look like bottom left braid does. Top completely submerged in shiny solder, no braid to be seen.

If you have more things to use as heatsinks, put them on the other side of the pliers so you donā€™t have to worry at all about solder wicking where you donā€™t want it.

That looks pretty good actually. Iā€™m going to disagree with McGee here and say that the entire braid submerged in solder is too much solder. My take is that that much solder is a lot of heat and to get to that saturation takes too long imo. I tend to saturate the braid then hit it with a vacuum solder remover and what is left is a perfect amount. But either way you canā€™t go wrong I suppose.

Haha yeah i just read your post earlier today about this which motivated me to re-do my shitty 8ga solder joints. Thanks for the pointers, and you too @Bindings_McGee

Still struggling a bit in trying to figure out what sort of plug is on this bms

Here is a comparison with a jst 2.54 connector that I am holding underneathā€¦pins are spaced the same but the plugs in comparison have a height differenceā€¦ any ideas?

So itā€™s not a jst-eh?

Just hack down a 8 pin jstā€¦ sand or trim one. I donā€™t see a problem, all you need is for the pins to connect, so make em connect, then epoxy if you worried about fit. Doesnā€™t need to look so pretty.

Whoops. I fucked up. @BluPenguin was right. It is in fact JST-EH-2.5

Going off of the 2pin housing on mine compared to 2pin ph 2.0 housing was apparently a bad idea. Digikey or mouser is probably best, want me to link some?

TBH tho, this is a situation in which I said fuck it, de-soldered the pins, and soldered in 22awg silicone leading to a 13pin PH 2.54

Yeah! That would be great!
