Thx, ordering AS150s now
I once used 4 simultaneous lower power soldering irons to splice some 6awg wire in a pinch. I’m not sure I’d recommend that technique but it did work.
I have a map gas torch and tinfoil
Built a few packs but still not clear what the loop key xt90 is used for? I see it being used in tons of builds, and tons of builds where it isn’t used.
My 18s pack is wired up like this except for the ‘150a’ part that goes into the ESC. The Stormcore takes the XT90S straight from the battery, with a blade car fuse on positive for charging

Loop keys are for builds without antisparks. Your stormcore has one built in. For builds without they allow you to turn the board on by precharging the caps (via the resistor in the xt90s) without a sparky
Hey,
what do you guys think of my first battery? 10s4p with vtc5a.
0.2mm nickel, folded and glued on the cell with double sided foam tape (idea was to avoid strains on the welds, won’t do it again as it doesnt stick that good after welding…)
unfortnately I can’t find the pictures of the spotwelds anymore
Sorry for the silicone mess, the nozzle from the cartridge decided to destroy it self at 8 in the evening and at 25€ the cartridge I didn’t want to have to buy an other one…
still needs a bit of packing tape and heatshrink after the silicone cures

Loop keys are also used on boards with antisparks as an externally accessible circuit breaker. With the current state of our ESCs, i’d recommend every build have a loop key.
I have a similar station. 72 watts I think, ya? It’s possible w a chisel tip but not easy.
I mean, C-ratings do not fall under any norm, so in fact, factories can write what ever C-rating they want on their batteries. Depending on how they define what 1C is, they are always right.
Just as a heads up, the cables on those lipos are way to small, they are only AWG10 and they get really fucking hot after a few welds. Don’t touch them or they will burn your fingers. I’d replace them, but so far I’m unwilling to rip the lipo apart.
@Linesflag is correct. They get quite hot. I run a fan over the connections, wires and battery while welding. This helps w thermal mgmt quite a bit.
What about production boards using vesc?
That’s why I run dual smaller lipos. Each with 10awg
Hi guys I have a Evolve Carbon 1 generation which I want to rebuild with 21700s.
I was thinking of this Layout (12s4p) but 6 cells is not optimal for connecting.
Any ideas to improve?
The other way of cells is too tight but i could theoretically fiit more cells.
I would do 16s3p in this layout.
However, those LG M50LT cells are not going to make a very good pack. They are an energy cell, not a power cell, and will sag pretty bad at even 10A/cell. That means a 16s3p will be limited to about 30A discharge with sever voltage sag if you exceed that. Since you would likely be over-stressing them, they will not run efficiently enough for their high capacity to matter.
You would get a much more enjoyable pack (with likely higher range) if you use a power cell like the P42A.
Thx @Linesflag @Common_good . I have an exhaust fan from a server cabinet. It’ll be perfect for such a thing.
Are they connected in parallel?
Yeah
The owner wants 12s he is also using the small original motors. I will have to make this work with those LG50s. The price to ratio was good.
They have still 4600mAh with 15 Amp discharge (I know not recommended)
That would be ideal but not everyone has 2 lipos, so yeah. A fan or taking breaks works too.
