The battery builders club

12ga is usually okay, but that depends on the pack and how the ESC is configured.

It’s a 12s 4P 42a battery, I am not sure what the Hurricane esc can handle, I think I saw it say it’s set to 70 amps per motor? Guess 10ga can’t hurt.

42 Amp or P42a cells?

Ha sorry yes 12s 4p, p42a molicel

12ga is good for up to 65A cont. while just getting warm. 10ga will do 85A easily. It won’t hurt, but most boards don’t draw more than 20A cont.

Thanks, I know it would not pull that many amps. I’ll leave the 12ga then. When I can I have to check the room in there to see what will fit. The stock BMS says its 53mm wide, the LLT I believe is 65mm wide

yep, BMS bypassed! glad to hear it looks like good work, first time I’ve actually gotten a second opinion so thank you! gives me even more confidence going forward. really wish I could find a 12s4p 21700 enclosure to fit the vanguard

So if i feel like my battery is charging faster than it should, could possibly mean the batteries are unbalanced and one or some cells are getting overcharged?

It is quite small battery (10s2p p42a) charging at 5.2A

Started at 35v and for me personally reached 40v rather quickly. It wasn’t instant to be fair. Plugging in the charger brought it up to 37v. Going from 40ish to 41.75 took longer (since it lowered the amperage) which seemed to be the normal length.

Could also be my imagination since I’ve done some other things while it charged.

Charging at 2.5A per cell is pretty quick. I usually charge at 0.5A per cell.

This is what the datasheet has. Both of those are above your charging rate though

Also AFAIK those start with the battery at 2.5 V and just have a ton of reverse sag when they start charging. If you were starting at 2.5 V I’d guess based on that you should hit CV after under 100 minutes or so considering 8.4 A hits it in like 25 minutes and 4.2 hits it in like 50. It won’t be completely linear because of reverse sag, but you’re charging at 2.6 A per cell. Starting from 3.5 V it would be a lot sooner.

Yeah for a 10s2p at that very high amperage I’d expect it to charge really fast

Revel for example, their FAST charger charges their 10s2p at 4a

I’ve been using the battery for a while now with this charger, just the last few times kinda felt like its charging faster than previously (aka possible problem)

Has it a LLT BMS?

No, otherwise I would’ve checked it. Bestech d140 i believe

Well then there’s no other good way to tell except opening the pack up and checking all p-groups individually I think.

Is it okay if i have the P groups stacked like this?

previous P group[+ cell 1 -][+ cell 2 -][+ cell 3 -]next P group

Are you saying the p group will consist of cells with their + and - terminals connected like in your diagram? I think that would make it more of a series group.

Fuck

Draw a diagram. That’s always helpful
