The battery builders club

Damn. That’s a shame. Thanks for the heads up!
What method of surface prep did you try with the nickel?

I got my nickel from here:

It was around 206$ for 4kg of nickel shipped to my door. That was best price I could find.

omg all 4kg the same thickness/width? Go hard or go home!

Nop, different sizes. But price per kg is same, no matter width/thickness

Has someone some spare XT 150 connectors?

Because amazon/ebay/hobbyking seem to have plenty in stock, I’m going to redirect you to:

On Hobbyking they are on backorder. I don’t trust amazon and ebay on that case.

Apologies! How many of what kind are you looking for? I have a stash.

connectors: M, F
housings: red-big, red-small, black-big, black-small, blue-big, blue-small

Dudes… this thread is one of the most overwhelming things i have ever seen.
How come no one has made a definite guide to make a battery with pictures and diagrams and bill of materials in a single easy to find and navigate place…
@eBoosted Alan. Me just like most everyone here just want to be like you and make perfect builds. I’ll never get there but it is good to have aspirations…
Can you bring the guide you did for the 12s4p on the old forum to this forum?
There are some details I did not see.
What size nickel strips did you use?
2x16awg between the series correct?
What about the gauge on the wires connecting to the xt60 or xt90?

From what I’ve seen over time, each board has special needs. Material and equipment and technique evolve over time. And everything is a compromise due to space/cost restrictions.

Even someone like eBoosted had a board catch fire in the street.

Maybe I should take a more targeted approach then.
Here is my plan.
Appreciate suggestions recommendations.

To get my feet wet I just want to start with a 12s3p with 30q cells.
Plan on running on my little single drive Tayto with a Flipsky Fsesc 6.6 plus.
Single Flipsky 6374 190kv.
Plan on setting battery to 40 amps max.
Motor to 60-65 amps max

I plan on following part of the method @eboosted used.

To fit it in my Tayto I will have to do a N configuration. Not a U.

I saw this picture from @taz

This is kind of what I plan on doing.

I think this diagram applies.

I just ordered the Malectrics spot welder because it was 100 bucks less than the Kweld and I’m not opening a factory…

Here is the lipo I ordered to run it.

This is the smart bms I ordered. Plus Bluetooth module.

Got the cells ordered from liion.

Ordered the ts100 soldering iron.

So I am pending most of the little things.
Have
xt60
Jst charge port to 2.1 5mm.

Fish paper. Ordered.

Pending:

Nickel strips.
Fish rings.
Kapton tape.
Solder.
Silicone wire.
Shrink tube.

Also need recommendation on the silicone or hot glue to glue the cells.
And on protective gloves for welding or soldering.
And has anyone bought from this eBay store

Thanks for the kind words but I don’t consider myself to make perfect builds at all. Nevertheless, I had the blessing to be trusted by people and that support allowed me to have received a few battery orders, practice helps quite a lot with continuos techniques improvements.

I’ll try to make a step-by-step with pictures on my next battery build l. If you take the time to make the battery let it be not only functional and safe but also pretty. Knowing it’s nice inside and outside would multiply exponencialy the enjoyment of your future esk8

Looks pretty reasonable a plan. Just really take your time and think about what could break or wear from movement/vibration/heat/water, and what would happen in the worst case. I think everyone in this thread goes through this thought process.

Post lots of progress photos, planned next steps, etc. So @Andy87 can circle stuff in red

Don’t be so modest. Your builds set standards of performance and beauty. Always inspired by your stuff.

All of your work is outstanding @eBoosted :ok_hand:

Great thinking. Let’s find someone who compiles all the information here to a comprehensive guide. I nominate @rafaelinmissouri. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Ah ok, so you cut them of the balance board. Was hoping to not need to do that
Thx anyway!
