Something I’d like to recommend is easy access to the electronics. I hate having to do a full teardown whenever I need to get inside some boards.
That is one of the design criteria. A must. Also, the access is going to be from the top.
I think the biggest issue with closed gears can be ratios. Hard to stock lots of different sizes I’d imagine.
How many different options are there for the Stooge gears?
Lots, although stooge only offers a few on their site directly. I think having them open also allows for more ratios since the pinion is not confined by a case.
Very good point.
I know Linn is working on some stuff for their gears. I’ve heard good things about them too. I actually wanted to run them on my SS build, but I ran into the issue of the pinion being d shaped, and only 1 size ratio.
They said if there was more intrest, they’d add more ratio options. I only meantion them since I know you collab’d.
I chat with Linn frequently. I would love for him to make a race specific gear system.
After seeing racing first hand, I think he has caught the racing bug.
It’s cheaper and easier to run and change ratios on open gears than it is with belts… once you have the spurs anyway.
There’s no real benefit to a closed case on a track specific board.
If you only use it on the track, there’s no benefit. If you use the same board on the group rides that accompany the race, people are gonna hate you if you are on open gears. At least that’s how it is in the EU.
One benefit is everyone hears you coming. No sneaking up on people on bike paths that’s for sure lol.
But yeah, they’re loud no doubt
People love it here in Cali. Let’s people know I’m near them without them having to even look
I’m just gonna jump in here and mention, track practice is fun on any board. So i hope future races keep a space for daily drivers and other classes. I don’t expect everyone to have multiple boards in the hobby end of the sport.
i’m too broke to have more than one baord
and my board’s too broke to allow me to have more than one board
100% agreed. It’s a super important class for the growth of riders and the sport.
Also lower powered track focused boards are going to be epic for people to dip a toe if they got bitten by the track riding bug.
and also for fun.
I would like to reduce the maintenance and contamination that comes with an open gear system.
Toolless housing maybe? Housing around the SRB gears would be cool if just to catch grease maybe.
i don’t think i’ve seen much if any issue with maintenance or contamination on street riding on open gears
@Yeahthatperson even offroads no problem
