Timo got a small batch of new tubes, he was kind enough to send me some, this was last month and I haven’t got a flat ever since. It’s being only a month so take my comment with a grain of salt
hi everybody,
busy December…and had to squeeze in a few days in Thailand sipping tasty cocktails at the beach.
now back in Taiwan…
first week of January we will get new custom made tubes, same pricing. They are slightly bigger than the currently used ones and a tiny bit thicker.
for the new outer tires, everything is in the works…but Chinese New Year comes at a really bad time and it feels like whole of Asia is already in lazy festive mood.
Will keep you all posted and be back in the forum more regularly
best
Timo
Welcome back Timo. Inject some sanity please
Great to hear! Hope you had/have a happy holiday season.
…sunburnt on my first day at the pool
lobster-red back …thats the drawback when a tasty Gin Tonic puts you right to sleep at the pool at noon time
I had a lot of flats with the o-rings, this was not fixed. I got a new set of tubes and they are working good so far
Trying to set up some new Bergs for the first time this weekend and wanna make sure I slime and line properly to shield myself against the dreaded flats as much as possible.
Is the going rate for 6x2’s still about 30mL of slime?
Can anyone link to the latest Tire Liners being used in 6x2’s!?
Any other tips/tricks for setting up tubes+tires for the first time??
Much love and happy Friday y’all!
2 noob questions I thought I’d ask:
- Why do our esk8 tires fail so often compared to bicycle tires? Is it just because the circumference of the wheel is X times smaller, so it sees X times more wear?
- When you get a flat, is it like on a bike where you don’t really notice until the next day, or does it make a POP! and cause an unexpected wobble that throws you off? Just wondering if I should preemptively add slime to my wheels, or first ride them normally to see how bad it really is without it.
It always depends on the situation. A small puncture could cause a slow leak, or you could loose all of your air in a few seconds, but this is more rare. Generally the slime will stop both of these from happening. Also, with street tires, people get flats more often than you would think, and some tires are inexplicably worse than others.
i think esk8 tires fail just as often as similarly sized scooter tires. smaller tires are subject to exponentially more deformation under load than bigger tires
I’ve had both situations of flats, slow leak and fast. Neither time did I hear any pop.
Depends on the profile of the tire. I run aliexpress 6x2 and because of their flatter profile, I had pops that felt like a small bump and I was able to keep riding. I like the aliexpress because you can technically run them flat I’ve also had situations where my side wall of the hubs blew out and those were louder than tires popping. The end result was a fat tire but didn’t throw me off. The worst was when the side wall only partially gave out result in an uneven fat tire. That had severe vibrations but I was able to stop and not eat it.
I’m specing out a mountain board build right now for light gravel/dirt bike trails (not true off-road)
I’m having the trouble deciding between:
- dickyho 145mm solid tires
- bergs with slime
I have an ebike with slime, and even with slime, I have 3-4 fatal flats a year that requires me to change out the entire tube which is a pain in the ass.
Do you think the dickyho solid tires are a worthy compromise? I really don’t want to be inconvenienced with a flat in the middle of a 100km+ ride on a sunny weekend afternoon.
Has anyone run both the tires before and can chime in?
Any insights would be helpful
Thanks!
Slime has been working for me, however I would also look into some sort of liner as well. Like the slime liner, if you do chose to add a liner make sure you inflate those bergs to at least 50psi, or else the liner will shrivel up and move about the tire and cause imbalance
Slime and liners and I’ve not had issues since. Apart from a really old tube that has many slime filled holes slowly slowly slowly losing air if I don’t ride it for a day or two.
While the dickyhos are nice, for dirt and grass and even normal roads, the bergs will be much… better. Though the dickys will give you more range.
@murdomeek also remember that the bergs and dickys will not fit on 12mm channel truck axles. IIRC only the 9mm ones will fit, Trampa Vertigo? one of their trucks has thinner axles.
Yeah good point. I’m planning on using standard longboard deck and trucks.
Slime only plugs up holes after you get them. It doesn’t prevent holes from happening.
You need to get some sort of liner which will prevent the tube from getting punctured. The slime will then become a secondary safety net against flats.
wish they made gatorskins and armadillos in our size
Depends on how much you care about ride quality. Doing light offroading on airless tires is not something I would enjoy…
