For commuting a used aerostich is hard to beat because you can put it on over clothes
This is good for new, but my “stitch” was 400 used and far superior. Lots of people buy motorcycles and gear and never really use them, so my stitch was basically new
They are more comfortable that you might think. Decent new suits are 350, my aerostich was 1400 new, I got it for 400 , basically new .
They have good vents, and can be fine in summer, but nothing compares to a perforated leather suit.
If you are patient you can find a good leather or textile suit under 200
Nice, I’ve been thinking about replacing my motorcycle gear lately as it’s getting pretty old now and accumulated some asphalt along the way. The jacket is actually sun faded on the back after 100,000 miles and I’m sure it’s lost some strength.
Nearly all of our rides are full day rides and I usually wear textile mesh jacket and pants because I find it hardest to stay cool when it’s 85+ out and that’s all that works.
In the spring/fall when it can be 30F in the mornings, I’ll add a bunch of windbreak liners along with a heated jacket and pants.
I think my biggest issue with the Aerostich is that aside from some vents, it just doesn’t breathe very well compared to mesh in the summer.
I’ve wanted to go single piece perforated leather for a while, but wondering how it would do in the heat. Does it keep you cool enough in the summer?
I have about 250,000 miles on motorcycles. I have always worn leather. As long as you are moving it’s ( perf leather) fine. When you are stoped it’s only slightly better than unvented . You can use a leather hole punch to add more perf it to perforate non perf stuff. I used a RS Taichi windproof suit in to help my perf stuff preform better, I still use it for sk8. The leather perf is 90% as good as like even a Joe rocket mesh jr, but far more protective. Using a leather hole punch let’s you address areas that don’t have enough flow. And most suits have breathable stretch panels in like the inner arms .
Below is the breathable stretch panel and you can see how much light coming through
I think if 90% of the flow of what ever you are wearing now is ok go for it, just remember, if you stop for more than 5 minutes, peel the tops off. There are Australian eBay sellers who drop ship from Pakistan, they do custom measurements and graphics. @zero_ads has one of these, so you can ask him his impression of quality. The only caveat is the pads usually are low quality, replacing them with force field or your favorite pads should be in the budget
I have a Gerbing heated vest sans cord I’ll let go very cheap if you ever need one and my Joe rocket 46 suit is 50$. It’s in my gear ad
If you are local you can borrow it
I love that im so off topic, i have multiple pics and subjects in each reply i have no clue what people are liking(THUMBS UP ETC) I love it, i wouldnt have it any other way.
This is only useful to get gear for cheaper if you are the same size as most people The one place where me being smol doesn’t help me get clothes for cheap is in specialized gear unless I got super lucky and a store decided to discount a super old version that never sold due to the small size
I do need to get finally get around to getting my motorcycle license first I have no car license so the process is a bit harder to go through and buy a motor cycle or high powered scooter before I worry about gear Any scooter would be at least 150cc and capable of highway speeds so basically a motor cycle but you sit up on it and not hunched over. For esk8 I don’t wear any pads and only bother with a helmet
Sometimes xs gear goes on sale new because it doesn’t sell, Motorcycle Closeouts
This site is great occasionally. Scooters and bikes are dangerous, I was hit from behind at a red light by a Buick doing 30( fuck that sucked) you can get custom leather suits to order for less than 400$, I can suggest several places, dot helmets are shit, I like Snell and a European rating I can’t remember. Gloves are very important, footwear too any shoe will come right off, I had horrible road rash on the top of my foot. They WILL scrub the road rash with a stiff blue brush, to get road debris out, the pain is indescribable
I actually had to go to urgent care one time for a burn created in wet clay mud. I couldn’t get the mud all out myself and it was warm outside so bacteria was likely thriving in that mud. I didn’t know how hard I could scrub without making the burn worse so I had to have them do it. They offered a local anesthetic but I just told them not to use it to save time
My brain is dumb and I can’t safely drive a car. Information in my line of sight ends up not being sent to my brain when in a car and even worse is the fact that I have no way of knowing I missed something unless explicitly pointed out to me.
Driving or riding smaller vehicles does not have that issue at all. So it isn’t a stress issue because if anything having no metal box of protection is more stressful. I only know of the blindness applying to signs, and then something during drivers ed I was yelled at about but not told what i missed. I do not want to find out what else I might not process since that could put myself and others at risk of death.
Also I already planned to get some EUR rated items since they’re stricter requirements to meet.
That site doesn’t list 29 waist as a size option I can alter 30 down but I don’t like having to do that on new items. I will still look at everything else on it more in depth later so thanks for the link
The best advice I have for 2 wheel motor transport is look 4 times before you go through a green light, keep you vehicle in gear at stoplights, monitor your mirror and leave a way out( don’t get too close to the car in front) do not trust your mirror, turn your head, and finally, assume no one sees you
Oh, very important, practice panic stops in a parking lot. You don’t want to be ineffective at this. You need to let your suspension go through it’s travel in the front fork before you can apply max brakes or you will wash the tire out
I do all of that minus the mirrors and gear part already. I esk8 on roads where it is safe to do so. back in NC I used roads 99% of the time. TX has high speed limits so I can’t do it as much.
I assume everyone is either an idiot and can’t drive, or is an asshole with no patience. I will rarely even go if waved through because I won’t have a good path out if the car makes a dumb move.
I will need new panic break methods since I can’t bail to stop a motorcycle faster like I do on my esk8.
Target fixation is real, look where you want to go, do not look at accidents or obstacles, note them, focus on your path, I’d see an accident and say” don’t look, don’t look!”
There is a guy that ride around here on a bike and he has one of those for every holiday, I feel like they would get really loud at speed but they always make people smile so I guess its worth it.
Often only viable at night or early morning, because I don’t want to ruin the walkers vibe, the tight turns can be an issue, and I’m worried about pitching a board in the lake
So much great pavement, that is why I want a thane board. Plus I’m hoping I’ll ride is slower so I don’t dust my kids e-bikes
Now scooters have linked ABS, might be a good idea. I steer a bike with my back break a lot from track riding, so I would hate linked brakes or abs. But you probably don’t want to be “ backing it in” on the street
