looks difficult to make a turn on something like that

Indeed, i dont like the layout of it at all, just find the concept interesting. Motor turning(think: stupid tank mode that that one board had) would help, as would a better sitting position.

Which covid vaccine did you guys get? Any particular reason why you chose that one?

Apparently as things are going they will likely make us do it if we want to be allowed in public. Plus they reopened the borders and we already have multiple cases of delta mutant roaming around.

We have the Pfizer and the Janssen available here.

I got Pfizer and was happy to but would have taken moderna as well. J&J I’m still meh about. I feel like they tried to get the one shot dose as a selling point rather than what’s most effective but that’s 100% opinion. Janssen was never available here but looks promising so far. I’m a numbers guy though and Pfizer has a lot more data points out there currently.

Oh thanks, I wonder why we don’t have the Moderna here.

They were saying that about 30% of the population over 12 has been vaccinated (both shots).
Earlier this week they reported 142 new cases and 27 hospitalized among which 7 were in intensive care.
The only number they appear not to be sure about is how many of them were vaccinated, they say ā€œmaybe 2 or 3ā€. I get that they are cautious when talking about this but on the other hand they like to say ā€œall the people in intensive care are not vaccinatedā€ but with 70% of the people unvaccinated, I would think it to be normal that the majority of the people sick are among them.

I get it I know, we can’t afford another lock down and our hospital will be overwhelmed rather quick, I’d just take a bit better if my government straight up said, ā€œYou know what? Fuck it, we haven’t had the years needed to test this but we have no choice, plus we are no scientistsā€ Instead they give the ā€œDon’t worry about it, you will be safe, if works.ā€

Sorry for what looks like a conspiracy rant lol.

I got Moderna because it was the first one available to me personally. I would have preferred Pfizer but both of them are good. I’m not personally a fan of the J&J one but I’d have taken it for sure, if it was the first one I was offered.

I got Pfizer but just because it was the first available to me, same deal as Brian I’d take anything but a slight preference to Pfizer. My family doctor had an excess so he started doing everyone over 16 wayyy before even the 30 year olds were able to get it through the central system, so I got lucky. Fully covered since this Monday

As I understand the 1 dose JJ one is a different technology to the other two. It’s the more ā€œtraditionalā€ method of injecting a small dose of inactive coronavirus as a carrier for genetic code used to create spike proteins. The moderna and Pfizer ones are mRNA, they skip directly to delivering a ā€œcodeā€ that the body uses to generate spike proteins. As a result of injecting something virus-like (it’s called an adenovirus), your body has more of an immune reaction so the side effects are more common and a bit more intense. Unpleasant but still safe.

The reason I was mentioning this is that it’s not a direct trade off between efficacy and number of doses, they’re both just kind of side effects of the different approach used by the different vaccines

Yeah the explanation for this is that while the vaccines aren’t 100% effective against getting the virus, they are all pretty damn close to 100% against severe cases.

As an example, if 70% of people wear seatbelts while driving, you’d expect 70% of people in ICU for car crashes to have worn a seatbelt. But the stats in ICU don’t match the population specifically because the seatbelt changes your outcomes.

I get it, really I do, I just don’t like this whole situation.

Yeah I hate it too, and sorry if that was a bit condescending

If I’ve got an appointment at the DMV for 10:30, should I get there at 10:30? Gotta do that eye exam thingie for my piece of plastic

Last time I was there I didn’t have an appointment, and had to wait in line for an hour… And I’m not sure if I’ll have to wait in that line again

Asked my parents but they don’t know since it’s been forever since they’ve gone to the DMV :man_shrugging:t2:

Be there at 10:30 yes.

It’s always like that with appointments i feel. Appointment at 9:30, at 10:45 I’m finally next. Just stuff not working out or taking longer.

If you come late they might kick you out of the line

Always get there 10-20 mins early that way if the person in front finishes earlier well then you’ll get in earlier too. Thats a big IF tho

What is the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) called in

Germany?
Canada?
Your Country?

I’m genuinely curious. This is the place we get our driver licenses and our vehicle license plates and in some states, where we pay sales tax on the vehicle purchase price.

In my state there are goverment DMV offices but they are often super crowded. We also have franchise DMV offices that are privately owned and charge additional fees but generally have much better service.

A place that does organ transplants actually owns a lot of the DMV offices in this area, because they aggressively pursue convincing you to sign the ā€œOrgan donationā€ box (in case you die, you give away your pieces) as it directly helps their parent company’s bottom line. That’s dark shit right there. I’d have never known that if a relative didn’t work there.

This feels really really wrong.

Are organ transplant a privately owned business in the US?

NZTA manage licensing in NZ, but most people go to agents, The AA (Automobile Association), Postshop or VTNZ (place to get your car warranted, mot-ed or whatever you call it in your country)
