Don’t discount the effort put in by many of them to ride comfortably switch. It’s a hard skill to master and the reason they’re showing off on youtube is because of the effort it took to make it look effortless. Im about 25% confident in my switch and only ride switch at 1/8 my usual speed and confidence and level of control. I feel so clumsy and have to think about everything especially keeping my weight forward.
Riding switch is actually one of the biggest things im working on - just keep at it. Im told it will just click one day like most skating skills and someone else in eskate doing it makes me feel less crazy for trying
only ldp and downhill guys seem to really push this as a skill but the benefits of it on long distance eskate seems obvious ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Preach!!!
I have put in a lot of hours trying…
I am so much more comfortable these days…
But it is still so sketchy…
It’s hard for me to put numbers on what level I’m to… But not even 50%
The board really depends…
I find it easiest on Onewheels…
Then probably Dualitys…
wrong place oops
Sometimes I think that I should work on that skill, but then I remember that 90% of esk8s have split angles and tuned bushings and all kinds of other factors which make them really only suited for travelling in a single direction. Then I decide that limping backwards at 5mph is fineeeeeee lol
you can ride switch without changing direction tho
Yeah I guess that’s true. Didnt come to mind because I’ve never felt the need. The only time I’m riding with my right foot forward is when my board is going backwards. And I dont feel a particular need to improve my skills with my board in reverse.
But I can see why flipping myself around on the board could be a useful skill for evening out the strain on my body over a long ride.
Yeah that’s the main reason I’d wanna learn switch. So I could ride for longer lol
Backlash seems fine for me. I don’t like running mine super tight but it’s all preference.
Really looking forward to eventually finishing filling this hole in, and being able to focus on building another skateboard in here.
My advice to anyone else considering… Just buy a house which isn’t 100 years old and fucked. Never thought I’d be into my forties and still shagging around on a first house after fifteen years of it. At least this garage will be extremely well insulated for building more eskate in the winters.
Hello peeps, who is still here? The community and esk8 have taken quite a drop in popularity, it seems to me… dont know why to be honest
Needed a spare Minnie.
-
Cost: $160 shipped.
-
Tariff: Basically 150% of the price. Sigh.
Spending time on the phone with UPS to fix this is definitely worth my time.
I will say all my non-skater friends so far are afraid of trying my eboards when I offer even when I tell them about how it’s actually easier IMO than regular skateboard because of the brakes. But e-bikes are trusted enough to be in rideshares now. I think the danger of flying off/balance aspect is a popularity problem.
Yeah, growing up and learning to ride a bike is a very common shared memory for lots of children.
Some of us had the birth of razor scooters but most didn’t learn to ride a skateboard, scooter, or unicycle growing up.
I see retired neighbors picking up ebikes left and right because they grew up learning to ride them and “it’s just like riding a bike”
The average person is HORRIFYINGLY uncoordinated
Took me until becoming a ski instructor to find out
