This is interesting to see .
Many say esk8 is dead.
It never really took off where I live so I have always been a lone soldier.
DIY is probably especially dead.
There seems to be lots of nice pre built boards out there.
I think with prices now esk8 is more accessible than ever.
But I am not sure interest is very high…
And they’re so cheap that doing repairs is becoming less and less viable so few are learning the skills and even fewer and learning the skills to build. So we ended up losing more than we gain every year.
Also while prebuilts got cheaper most diy stuff got more expensive…
Maybe it’s just nicer stuff these days…
Might be our tastes getting more expensive. As esk8 gets more important to me the less tolerance I have for shit parts
I think most people need handlebars.
I’ve only seen one other guy esk8 in my area.
I think he was riding a prebuilt.
Yeah esk8 has ebbed and flowed but stayed pretty consistent here. The local college keeps it alive but I recently found a group of 5 dudes who ride all the time near me and they all started within the last 1-4 years so it can’t be dead.
Like you said, the prebuilts have come so far and are so much more affordable than DIY. If anything, DIY is dead.
RIP Kaly, Psychotiller, Boardnamics, Torqueboards (mostly), Enertion, Unlimited, Lacroix, and Hoyt
At the university I work at, scooters outnumber esk8 at least 10 to 1, but that still means a fair amount of esk8. I will say 90% of the esk8 is just cheap hub motor prebuilts, though. I don’t think I’ve seen a single board with pneumatics, and it’s rare to even see belt drive prebuilts. Meepo dual hub motor boards are definitely the most popular here.
Dang.
Party on!!!
I see more people riding evolve pre builts than I used to, and I think some people take them out to the dirt tracks. They’re the most common board here.
I probably see someone randomly riding an evolve on pnumies quite slowly wearing a full face helmet in town once or twice a month on average at the most. Coming from a background of mountain biking, it seems rediculous.
Last night after a few pints or so at the pub I went for a loop around the hills on one of my little thane wheeled not so standard GT’s. I can’t think of anyone else I know who would do that ride with me. Especially on thanes and after dark. The road has a lot of loose chip and potholes.
I thought eskate would take off, because it’s one of the best things that has ever happened for me. Turns out though, I probably never really was like the other kids
. It definitely hasn’t got less popular here. I had never seen an e-board when I bought my first, and I never met anyone who built their own when I started making my own batteries at least.
IMHO, as long as one person is turning a screw, soldering a wire, using a brain cell to solve a problem and implement a solution,
DIY WILL NEVER DIE!
(not shouting at you, shouting from my diy rooftop)
That’s excellent work.
I’ve actually learned to take DIY another step further too. I’ve been using the hot air SMD soldering blower to make more viscous the laminating epoxy, and repairing cracks in my helmet by blowing into the epoxy and clamping it.
I think I’ve repaired four cracks now. Sounds bad I know, but I feel confident with my work. First time was just inquisitive, now it’s just routine. DIY BITCHES!!!
How is this badge even possible to achieve!?!?
24x60=1440 minutes, 1440x60=86,400 seconds in a day.
Pack 100,000
clicks into 86,400 seconds = 0.864 seconds per click to hit 100,000 in 24Hr.
Either my math is off, or 27 members got game;
Or, is it all site wide likes are summed up, and the person whom likes the 100,000th for the day, gets the badge?
I suspect those badges were awarded before settings got changed. I’ve seen on other discourse forums they don’t want to incentivise non genuine
clicks. so they make the badge impossible to achieve
Yes, it’s this ![]()
@Venom121212 where can we buy the hats?
