They are using house core which is use by other wheel they making which not have this problem.

Do you think they all come from one bad batch? They all cracked at same spot, some brand new out of box…

According to @jeffwuneo they use inexpensive steel in thier molds that is too soft for glass fiber. So it is a given that they would have to completely change thier molds and the manufacturing process.

So you and I are still in agreement. Not a safe product. Unlikely that the problems will be corrected.

It is a real mystery that there seem to be no complaints about the SR Rough Stuff Wheel cores cracking.

I see 4 possibilities here

  1. all these came from a badly injected or cooled batch, they keep making it as they have but properly, and no more have problems. (likely)

  2. the design is insufficient, they don’t do anything because failure rate is low (also likely)

  3. they switch to kegal core with the same material, but because that core is so beefy, its fine. (they are considering this)

  4. they redesign the core completely staying with abec but strengthening and refining the process (unlikely)

Its still wierd that there are many complaints with the I-wonder cores and appearenly none with the SR Rough Stuff wheels. Do you think it is possible that they have to re-heat the i-wonder cores so that they bond with the i-wonder tire foam? Or do you think the molds are not functioning as well any more. Are the SRRS old stock and the I-wonder new production? @jeffwuneo?

It’s possible that it may not even be their fault. If they import the PC/ABS mix from another mfg, they could’ve gotten a bad mix with not enough ABS and caused the PC to be too brittle. That’s a empty claim unless someone does a material analysis…

NeoClouds?

I wish I had a better way to get these images. But this is just zooming in ony cell phone.
And I do believe a couple of the other wheels have hair line cracks.
Some may be just parting lines.

I could not tell anything was just looking at them. Had to use my phone camera.

I am curious as to what I will do with the new ones I am getting Friday…

Nice pictures. It looks like the cracks might be fairly advanced on the interior before they become visible at the surface.

So that’s an added concern.

Did a more thorough inspection. Found one at 10:00 in this wheel. And, of course, it’s the one with the goofy shifted foam.

I’m so done with abec cores like a month back. @stayfocus18 you need the proper amount of spokes for kegel core, doubt that will work too well.

they sell a similar pulley on their site

Yes, but that config is suited for the smaller wheels. The amount of torque to turn TB110s is a lot more - unless you wish to get TB90s

will look at something else then… never used kegel wheels

Bill, the last thing I wanted to see at this time of the day was a picture of your crack

Yeah that is not a crack from material, that is a bad mold injection or a mold artifact. Some of those may not even be cracked but could develop into a crack because the bad injection left a stress riser there. They need to go back and carefully look at their tooling.

Let’s see how a in-process order cancellation is handled in alibaba.

Just not comfortable anymore. While they may be replacing wheel ad-hoc I don’t feel comfortable trying to modify to make more resilient which would invariably kill warranty and apportion any blame or even keeping a very close eye on their condition, something I would not be bothered doing to much with abec.

You would expect they would take the cheap option and make the spokes thicker like clone flywheels in the existing mold(lazer welding followed by re-machining) rather than bury $15k in tooling a new high carbon steel mold for GF.

Given the commercial imperative over anything else we are accustomed from companies like this, they would want to lower their prices a little from the premium price and get rid of existing stock which could take a while, given the sales pipeline must be really good hence extra colors and selling via other brands.

All-in-all not feeling it, great concept but a cushion xperience isn’t worth hospital time, especially at the moment when hospital alone could kill you.
