Problem with Slick Revolution/iWonder Cloud Wheels (SERIOUS)

They answered today, sorry but Ownboard only have the old model to send.
I said I’ll wait, but thanked them for the proposition ^^

I’m talking about this stuff. Easy to cut with good scissors.

Google round dot rubber flooring and you will get some links that are local to your own area.

Update @visnu777 sent me 3 cloud wheels and I have a microscope on the way so we will look at the cracks and then chop a couple of these bad boys up and take a peek inside. I’m really looking forward to this!

I predict fibrous holes

It’s probably a good prediction

Lower your expectations, I had to drill the inner core a bit, not sure if the original cracks are still there.

For those like me who loved the Cloud Wheel until that sinister cracking festival,
I found these with a kegel aluminium core that looks pretty cool, I don’t know if it’s a well known wheel ?
Any review ? (click the link, I’m not talking about the " windmill " model in the miniature but about the " Honeycomb " one)

As I recall, @kook’s official review is “Not terrible!”

I have also been eyeing the honeycomb wheels, specifically for riding in the wet, as they are treaded. They are heavy though. 510g per wheel. Almost as heavy as TB110’s, and likely less comfortable. Not worth $130 in my mind. Not yet anyway, when we are going into the dry season and I dont have a daily commute requiring me to skate in the rain.

Which honeycomb wheels?

I liked their softness but hated loosing 25% of range
And they are quite ugly too :face_vomiting:

See my review on top of this post

@Hide. If there’s a spot open for testing. I’m up for it. My long range build is going to be done early next week when the motor arrives

These honeycomb wheels. (You have to actually click through the link, as this thumbnail shows the “windmill” style wheels that, understandably, ride like dogshit)

NO… NOT the BoundMotor abortions… the kegal core rubber tire… like @kenna used to pedal…

Is there a problem with bound motor ? I’m new, I don’t know them ._.

Here’s a pic of the “honeycomb” wheels, the ones that @BillGordon named “bacon strips”.
I guess there needs to be a vegan-friendly nickname.
You’ll find a few posts scattered here and there. The consensus being that they’re kind of shit. They only feel decent in conditions where you wouldn’t be able to compare them to a large urethane wheel. And it’s only in those conditions that you could be willing to accept the reduced range due to increased rolling resistance. And note that this is even worse the heavier you are, my kid can glide on those, and I feel like there’s a handbrake once I have all my weight on the board.
In comparison, the “windmill” ones don’t squish with as much variance, so a bit less inefficient and power hungry, but they still don’t feel anywhere near as nice as urethane wheels on good surface. Once again, this is the point, to never compare them with urethane wheels, because your local road conditions wouldn’t allow urethane wheels anyway.
So despite being touted as an all surface magic wonder wheel, those airless rubber wheels instead fit a very narrow niche in the market. Urban riding on pavers, small gravelly paths, acorn season, crushed seashells, wet stuff (untested)… but then, they also don’t compare with the allterrainability of 6x2 pneumatics or larger.
The cloudwheels aim to retain some of that ability to ride on not-so-perfect surfaces, but still provide a good feeling when on good surfaces, and without as much of a hit on the range. That’s yet to be proven, early days.

Someone else named them that (don’t remember source), but it stuck in my head, as did pictures provided by someone else showing the shoddy manufacturing and QC.

I’m still riding them and testing them out. Going to keep going until something cracks.

I have been meaning to switch back to normal PU, road surfaces around here make the cloud wheels preferable due to how they don’t slide on rocks and grip when there is stuff on the pavement.
