Problem with Slick Revolution/iWonder Cloud Wheels (SERIOUS)

Looks good, I’ll get a refund when I destroy them on video  so they get destroyed anyway

Mine had these written on them.

Ownboard have been very responsive to me - I’m getting a replacement set of 4 new wheels

Are they replacing them with 120D?

Do you know if Ownboard are sending you the new model, the safe one with transparent cores ? They proposed me replacement, but …
EDIT : they only have the old model.

And you’ll notice the 120D are now an extra $20… [https://shop.iwonderpower.com/collections/frontpage] They must have produced shitloads of the initial model, in so many different colors, and they really don’t want to sit on them by pushing the new core. Even if this probably should be the responsible way to do if there’s a confirmed defect / recall.

Good link. looks like the clone flywheel core, thicker spokes

Maybe I’ll buy a set when they mark them at $100 @Hide

not sure - my guess is the same ones

They didn’t say, just that they’re sending me new ones - fingers crossed!

Still waiting on the promised email here, but good to know some people are being taken care of with this. I really hope this clear core is the answer.

Hi,bill.
Sorry to keep you waiting for a long time.
now,we don’t have many new DISCOVERY version wheels, which cannot meet the number of tests.
We will provide 3 sets of new wheels for testing, somedays later.
Could you tell us the people who want to participate?
Thank you very much.

Been following this for a while.

I have a brand new set that doesn’t appear to be cracked, but I’m skeptical.

If @BillGordon doesn’t already have people in mind, I’d definitely be interested in testing. All 240lbs of me.

So I have put on the replacement wheels sent by I wonder.
I have 30 miles in ( 2 rides).

I ordered a microscope camera off Amazon to be able to inspect them more closely.

Unfortunately shipping is not 2 days right now so it may be a bit before I get the microscope can. I will also take better images of the old Wheels.
I asked Iwonder to send me a free set of the discovery wheels.
They said they could not…
But offered me a 50% discount.
I ordered them yesterday for 70 USD with shipping.
They have not shipped yet.

I’m looking forward to trying the new wheels.
At least something had changed.

The two rides I took with the replacement wheels were plagued with stress and concern about them breaking.

Guys, FYI:

One of the challenges we’ve faced is people offering to test things and not following through or providing the required data while keeping the products. It has happened enough that we have formed an official esk8.news testing squad. The people who are qualified have the official badge. We will be adding others in the future, so feel free to PM if you think you should be one of them.

We want to make sure we’re giving manufacturers testers with a lot of experience and a tough but fair process.

I notice you have bolt through wheel pullies. You should verify if those are recommended. I could be wrong but I think they recommended push in wheel pullies only. You want to get it right when the next set arrives.

why did you raise the price on the discovery model?

Yes…I have bolt on.
When I bought the new set of discovery I asked if they had pulleys to go them.
They do not.
So I am going to use the bolt on I have.

I personally have the opinion that them saying the bolt on pulleys are a problem is bullshit.

This is because I have literally hundreds and hundreds of miles using bolt on genuine abec wheels and it had never been an issue.

If there is a 40tooth pulley that is press on and is commercially available I would be willing to buy it.

But I am not aware of one that will fit with their wheels.

So I have a suggestion. I’m not sure if it is a good one or not. Just a thought.

Why not make a rubber gasket to place between the core and the metal plate. Then there is no steel on plastic and you have a resilient barrier. I often use 1/4 or 1/8 inch rubber flooring to make different types of skateboard gaskets including risers for trucks. The material is cheap and tough. Most hardware stores sell it by the foot.

A gasket could make the difference between cores that last 1 year and cores that last 5 years.

This sounds like a reasonable suggestion - could you point us to some links as to where to obtain these small rubber rings or gaskets?
