Ownboard Zeus Discussion

That’s like one of my legs, you will probably get better range than advertised, unless you need the increased torque for crazy hills or increased traction on loose gravel/dirt, there really isn’t that much need for 4WD especially at your weight.

4WD is gonna be a heavy board to pick up but perfectly balanced if that helps.

Just to clarify since it confused me and a few friends when this was first pointed out to me.
Carbon Zeus pro = 13s4p
Bamboo Zeus pro = 13s5p
Zeus max AWD = 13s5p

The Zeus max “AWD” has an option for 2wd and an option for 4wd. The primary difference between the pro and “Max AWD” is the battery, 2wd or 4wd are both options for the “Max AWD” version.

Confusing naming scheme for sure.

Also in each case the p42a battery option is better.

Though an old post interesting to see the ownboard in the same price category as the forums very own defiant 1 board.

From what I have gathered the defiant is the better deal 12s5p v 13s4 of the same cells. Better motors gear drive and a Stormcore with davga.

Seems with ownboard I’m getting hobby esc worse motors and battery. In 2022 defiant was not an option but in 2024 I’m surprised there’s not more talk about it

Admittedly, I’d actually disagree in this case, first off let’s clear up the battery confusion on the Ownboard. It’s a really stupid naming scheme that confuses everyone including me tbh.

So I’d argue that the 2wd 13s5p priced at $1480 is a better comparison to the $1900 defiant.
In which case the Ownboard has a very slight battery advantage.

The stormcore is certainly more powerful and smooth than the hobby wing but it’s admittedly hard to beat Hobbywing reliability and depending on when the SCs were shipped I’d have concerns about their reliability.

Again, definitely more powerful than the Chinese board motors and most likely objectively better but I’ve had pretty poor luck with flipsky motors and excellent luck with Chinese ones from the same manufacturer as Ownboard. You’re still probably correct on this one but I’ve gotten unlucky with flipsky so I’m biased.

I’ve had pretty poor experiences with m1 Street drives, as have a lot of people. Maybe there are more of them out there than I’d guess but I would definitely take a belt drive over the M1s on the defiant, I’d call this bias but it seems I’m not the only one either

That is a huge benefit to the defiant that you literally just can’t do on a Hobbywing setup, big points to the defiant there.

Also you can still get the 4WD version for $1680 which is still less than the defiant if 4wd is your thing.

I agree with you I would personally reccomend a ownboard Zeus bamboo or carbon before a defiant just because the Zeus doesn’t have the drive train issues that the defiant has and after buying the defiant for $1900 you basically gotta spend more money on belt drive kit and do a bunch for work which isn’t worth it at that point :man_shrugging:

Damn do these gear drives fail so frequently ? I’ve only had one gear drive myself from IDEA but it’s been more than fantastic and has held a tremendous beating from the road. Once have a wheel fall off and the drive took the load the wheel had once did.

Hmmm 1470 for 13s5p is impressive however all the fancy electronics in the defiant do add up to nearly 700 or so which is not easy to overlook however granted that everything has qc concerns

You make some valid points that have me considering ownboard however I think the selling point for me was the adjustable baseplates and the RPK vs TKP trucks as well. Granted I’ll not have been happy if I end up having to go belt drive anyway. From my perspective each component when compared is from a slightly different league and the price reflects as such. Then again 3000 reduced to 1760 with discounts does show that there was a markup which now admittedly im struggling to see where the profits are made with the defiant meaning providing we is goood it seems like quite and improvement for roughly 300 dollars which is a cheap prebiold board

Those were reported to rattle, just more failure points…

Adjustable baseplates leave you with only the downsides once you’re done adjusting.

You can’t be serious, I’m taking that with a grain of salt cause some people don’t properly know how to tighten hardware.

By design there shouldn’t have been concerns if cnc correctly.

Meh shame that the one board made by the forum community host has all these downsides. I’m really hoping I wouldn’t have the same experience
