"Nothing Fancy", A Tito Duality truck build

Could anyone enlighten me on this? I was just about to order some for a pack

My information on this is that for a flat, rigid pack, braid is fine. (I have a 12s4p with braid.) Extra care needs to be taken so that you don’t wick up too much solder into the braid.

Still, on any further packs, I will use wire because it’s a little more forgiving for any flex that may occur.

Getting ready for Electrify!

Added a gopro mount for my insta360. I put it in a spot where I can use the same arm as Ankle Wreacher, so I can quickly switch between the two boards.

I also decided to do something about my scraping issue. Got some titanium rods, cut them to length, and hot glued them to the edges of the enclosure. They fit so well, it’s easy to miss them if you’re not looking.

I probably spent too much time making the hot glue look nice, but I’m quite proud of the result. Before cleanup vs after

The video doesn’t do justice to how cool this looks irl.

I might need to give the same treatment to Ankle Wreacher

Edit: just scroll

I can’t believe hot glue held them in place??

Hot glue is underrated. Strong, impact absorbing, easy to apply, easy to remove.

this part i’m aware of. and it’s what gave me my doubts.

@tuckjohn
Just got tracking info for my trucks.
Cant wait. I’ll have to start getting bushings ordered too.

Also love the TI rods for spark fun!

Got 3rd place podium on both Saturday and Sunday

Unfortunately I was tied for points for 3rd of the weekend, and I had a slower average qualifying time, so didn’t end up on the podium overall.

In more fun news, the spark rods that I added definitely got used this weekend! sSaved me enclosure damage, and were a ton of fun. I started to get good at doing a continuous, scrapping circles

However, 5 of the 8 spark rods fell off throughout the weekend. I think prolonged scraping heated up the rod, melting the hot glue. The ones that stayed on have a lot of wear on them… they’re definitely consumables.

I want to put em back on, but might spend time coming up with a reusable, replaceable mounting scheme. No idea how to accomplish this, though. Any ideas?

Snap in 3d printed tpu mount? maybe out of the super tough stuff?

It’s gonna be pretty hard to find something that can hold it well enough and also not be scraped off

Titanium conducts heat really well.
I would think some sort of mechanical system to hold them on?
Maybe find a way to slot them into something, or thread them on.
Super small pipe clamp with a self tapping screw? Or a way to drill and tap and use 2 screws to mount it somehow to the board.

But i consider you a friend. I wont make you Tap Titanium. Grinding titanium is one thing. Drill and tap is another.

Maybe it’s two printed parts. A deck plate with a mounting groove of some type to make a physical connection. The deck plate would be glued to the deck. The groove could just be friction held and use the direction it’s mounted as a way to hold itself together when it is forced to one side.

And the other is a sacrificial carrier that holds a epoxied in titanium rod. The back of the carrier would have a corresponding tab that would slide into the deck plate.

Edit , yellow triangle groove should be in the other direction.

lol

its low thermal conductivity is part of why its such a pain to machine - however, hotglue has a super low mounting point. I’m more inclined to think that the titanium rods probably caught on some divots in the ground, and caused a big shock load, and just popped it off, something hotglue on a smooth surface is not good at resisting

In my case i had difficulty machining it.
I mostly work by hand with knife making and i feel the heat pretty quick. Its not as heat conductive as brass/copper/aluminum. But it still gets hot pretty quick when grinding it.

Brass and copper are awful. Rapid thermal conducting. Heat goes from one side to the other super quick.
