Noob question thread! 2020_Summer

Thanks, I am asking because on my next build I’d like a raw metal color, so if cans are steel I have to figure out some kind of rust protection as I think over time it will rust for sure…

I don’t think rust there will harm the skate, but it may not look great.

Yeah, pure aesthetics is what bothers me

Thanks a lot

The moons? Guess so, last batch sold out pretty quickly.

@Trampa can i get ground and positive pins into the canbus connector for the switch button on the mk3? all other connectors would require splicing

No, those specific axles.

I don’t think so, no. Guess everybody is using the moons with mbs channel trucks.

Clean them really well.when new, then clear coat them with urethane.

Gnd can be any gnd.

Which BMS’ have an auto-stop feature for current when charging?

That is, which ones will detect when the charging current has dropped down to a certain (hopefully adjustable) point indicating that the pack is charged and the charging current can be turned off?

Smart chargers will do this on their own but many people use CC/CV power supplies (like ones for LEDs) and those will continue to charge the pack indefinitely or until disconnected. This is bad for the battery pack.

It looks like the FlexiBMS Lite has a selectable charge current cutoff. Any others? I couldn’t find any.

What about the 5v line? Is it common across the entire vesc?

Most of the times I charge with one of these cc/cv voltage boosters up to around 85%. Like you say they are always on and keep the voltage at that level indefinitely.

Do you reckon that is bad for the battery pack?

Yes, also VCC. The only pin you can switch is voltage on SENSE. That is either 3.3 or 5v

Holding a li-ion battery pack at its charging voltage is definitely bad as it accelerates aging of the cells. Disconnect the power supply as soon as charging is done.

No, not on all models. In particular, the TB6 has an “Enable” signal instead of a true 5V on the CANBUS 5V pin.

I just soldered some aviation plugs for the sensors on the motors. Im wondering if I could break something if I did it wrong?

Shorting the 5V to ground can break stuff.

Seems like i only need gnd and switch pins. It can feed voltage to the led while turned on

Anyone know where to get this or something similar sabre dynamics are sold out.

If he can’t help you, thingiverse might be an option (if you have a printer)
