Noob question thread! 2020_Summer

I thought about that. Managed to incorporate it into my esc enclosure somehow

got 4 focboxes 1.6 that i need to attach through canbus or split uart

i want to solder the power cables together as i heard that the canbus can blow on htme quite easily if not connected to power at the same time. what is the best way to do this? (parallel connector or solder the wires directly?)

thank you

also can someone send a wiring diagram for 4wd canbus and does it matter if the cables are very long

Cable length should not matter a lot for our uses, if there is interface you can add a ferrite ring.

Wiring is simple, all can h together and all can l together

cable length of around 1m or so

should any of them have gnd and 5v connected (i think its those pins)

Not for canbus

yep thanks
will a meter be to long?

Honestly don’t know, the longest cable I’ve used is about 40 or 45cm long in an esk8, maybe others have idea

k thanks
just i know that with other cables length is an issue so maybe this also

@b264?

You could run 2 * 2wd with each 2wd over canbus and one receiver for each 2wd system using a mini remote. That way you don’t have to run canbus across the board.

Sorry I made a typo.
The length should not matter.

I had one that was 70cm long. It worked np.
Insulating the wires helps (add something around them or make the Canbus using a shielded 2 wire cable)

yeah thanks a lot
sounds good and @approachinglogic im using a vx2 probably so cant do dual receivers
might switch to a puck in the future though

CAN bus is used in the automotive Industry were they have much longer cables. Its also very resistant against interference so you probably don’t need to shield it. Twisting the cables never hurts tough.

found a loaded vanguard on r/longboarding for $70 + ship (~$30) :open_mouth:

the deck has been sitting for a few years, could that negatively affect it?

it shouldn’t unless it has been under sustained stress for that few years, if not, then its just gonna be dusty that’s all

nah its just been sitting in this person’s parents basement according to them.

most likely its fine. might want to ask the seller for some close up photos to check if it was soaked in water whatnot :joy: u probably don’t want that

yeah i have pictures of the board from 3 years ago, but the person will send me new ones in about a week when they go back for it. I hope its good, its a flex 3 and it seems like its in nearly perfect condition. I will have to route it, but that should be a fun experience.

all the best

would this work okay for an xt60 parallel splitter
each side of the braid goes to an xt60 and the other end to an xt90 to put 2 vescs in parallel.
each side will be carrying a max of 30 amps

Good question. That does seem like a really easy way to do it, unless someone can think of a reason why it would be a bad idea
