When flashing firmware through the swd pins, can you flash from a vesc based on HW 4.xx to a vesc 6.xx or will this cause issues?

yes, no

should be fine

What makes a bigger difference in better stability:

Lower center of gravity/lower deck or

Less angled trucks (50 down to 35, for example) or a split truck setup?

Truck angle, definitely. I have built absolute monster trucks that were both stable and turny all the way up to 35mph. 60° front 30° rear, squishy bushings front, firm in the rear.

greased for at least some people.

Motor ratings get stated in watts. how does one know the limits of volts or amps they can take?

can a 4.5kw motor take:

  1. 1A at 4.5kv
  2. 4.5kA at 1v
  3. 89A at 12s.
  4. 107A at 10s
  5. 59A at 18s

surely there are independent amp and rpm/volt limits on the motor… how does one know these?

Are these joints ok

For my standards - no.

I personally would redo those connections.

Did you use flux and enough heat? Doesn’t look like the wire took the solder in properly.

Yes
Tonnes of flux and solder

I am awful at soldering so for my standards they seem ok

I don’t do much off-road so pretty smooth surfaces and little vibrations

Would I get away with them

Probably? They’re not pretty but look solid…?
Actually on second glance they don’t look to be hot enough… need bigger iron or more heat.

the middle wire looks like a cold joint…that will end badly

They got really hot and lots of flux
They are really strong but super ugly

As @rosco said: Probably.

I bought a second hand ESC and the wire looked like this. He had been using the esc for a while now.
So yours have a good chance of holding

That looks even worse then mine

Doubt if I solder again they would get any better so I think I will take my chances

What you could try is to reheat them for the solder to properly flow.

How flexi are they? Do they crunch?
