So setting an ERPM limit will prevent you from accelerating past a certain speed on motor power, and if you pass the limit due to an external force you can’t safely apply brakes because the ESC can’t “funnel” the power as DC into the battery and you blow something

Even if you could safely apply brakes, the VESC will refuse to apply them if your rotor is over your set ERPM limit. That’s the hard freewheel speed and the VESC will not attempt to do anything while exceeding it…

That’s why you shouldn’t limit speeds with ERPM limits, unless it’s a propeller.

Limiting all programs to a set speed

You need to change the “Maximum Duty Cycle” to some amount less than the default 95% AND THEN make “Duty Cycle Current Limit Start” about 5% less than that.
