'Need 4 Speed (& traction)' Track specific board build thread. And ERL updates now :)

They were sold as hardened steel. Clearly they are not lol

As ive been unable to locate brand name replacements I’ve bought another set off Amazon and a set from ebay again. Both are claiming hardened steel but the price would indicate not as they’re much cheaper than any branded pinions.

Got me some wide boys for the rear of my Semendeed and instantly paid off. Wiped over 1 sec a lap off the I2S Chicago circuit and move into 4th :relaxed: Eying off a podium with Mario Chacon 1.3sec ahead. Still a bit of work to do!

@Tasventouras is closing in on the top runners in T Race too now he’s getting used to his BRPs. I think he’ll start putting pressure on me on I2S Chicago once he’s happy with his T Race progress.

Niiice you got them new proto 4 inch wide boys. That Chicago track looks a bit tougher to setup.

Yeah much tougher to setup but we have it painted so now it’s done we just put markers down. Originally took an hour to mark out with four of us.

The 4inch tyres are good on this track but slow me down on T Racing! Harder to get around tight bends.

Oh snap painted lol. Where you find a spot to paint!?

I also heard from Mario the 4 inch wheels are bit tougher to warm up?

Just a big carpark. Dotted it out with paint. Security didnt seem to care.

I didnt have an issue getting heat into the 4 inch but it’s Summer in Perth Oz and even nights are warm.

Yeah, im keen to start focusing on the chicago track soon. Im going to keep cracking on with t-race as my setup is geared well for it and id love to crack into top 5 or higher before i start playing with gearing for the chicago straights.

T race has given me much more confidence to brake later and accelerate earlier especially with the BRPs so ill apply all my new learnings to the chicago track.

You are certainly now getting to the point where the time becomes much harder to fight for and find. You definitely got into the 26’s faster than I thought you could! I am extremely curious to see if you can get up to the top times on this track without a V5. The last second will really require you to be pushing to the limit in minimum apex speeds, and consistently finding the limit of grip and spending as much % of the lap time on that limit as possible. Cheering you on from Chicago!

Thank you for putting in all the work to adopt our track and put in the time riding it! I’m honored and excited for this track to continue to grow alongside T-Race as an international measurement standard. Very grateful.

No, thank you! It’s awesome fun. And thanks for the tips as always!

@Tasventouras and I have been battling it out recently for the top racer in the ERL and T Racing. It’s honestly been a blast and awesome to have each other so close to push past what I’d be able to achieve on my own.

Tas’s recent rise to the top of the T Race charts got me to make a few tweaks to the Semendeed to have another crack at getting the top spot back. Loostened bushings and upped motor amps in the rear a tad, and went with a 10% throttle expo on the new puck FW.

Pretty bloody stoked to crack the 13 second barrier and did it three times in a row! Still haven’t quite got the all time fastest 1 lap held by Mario Chacon, but very close.

Onto the indoor track…Tas definitely would have got the fastest lap and new track record at the High Voltage indoor track Sunday just gone. His lap monitor transponder was having a few issues so he didnt record his times but he was slowly pulling away from me that night each lap!

Some fast boards getting around and some up and coming racers improving each session .

The next goal is to break into the 25s on Chicago Northerly circuit (unless Tas gets back in front of me T Racing tomorrow night!).

Then further down the track I’m really pushing to make Esk8con next year. The ERL legends are running a fundraiser shortly to assist with the huge costs associated with international travel, accommodation and shipping boards for an Australian team. With Esk8con opening up another 50 race spots I’m very much hoping to snag a race ticket being number 28 in line :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:.

Dude y’all slaying out there! Would love to see y’all out here, is there some sort of go fund me?

Thanks man. Yeah ERL are putting something out in January as difficult to raise funds just before Christmas.

I’m so stoked for you. Your T-Race journey is legendary.

Also… @Tasventouras … who I’m assigning at least 30% credit for your help in @JeffyJ’s progress. XD :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks @fessyfoo. I started T Racing at 18sec laps from memory so it’s been a journey for sure, and about 4 different race board upgrades haha. It’s been fun for sure. Edit: and the 30% estimate probably a little too conservative haha

Yep, we’ll be putting the fundraiser out in january to try and support the 4 racers coming over. Looking forward to getting over there and sending with you all!

Looking at doing a battery re-build for my racer as after a near 12 months thrashing my battery the voltage is starting to reduce. Got hold of some p45b cells from local battery builder Marsen Energy so I’m going to build myself a replacement battery. Question is, what configuration? Stick to my reliable 12s8p config or go to 16s6p?

I’m very nervous to go back to 16s but it will give me more top speed without having to change gearing again and I’m already on a 22T pinion gear. If i go 16S I can go back down to 18T which I already have if needed.

I have a Maker X D75 already that I’ll use for the front motors. Looking at the Maker X D100 for the rear possibly if i go down this route.

My main concern is whether they will behave nicely over CAN. It’s a big concern!

Same setup as I’d planned… @zero_ads seems like he’s doing well with 205kv @21s surely even though others have said not to we’d be fine in our climates at 16s.

I doubt you’ll have any trouble with those two over can.

Although sticking the 12s you’re staying with a tried and tested setup that’s been solid for you so far. 8p will give you plenty of discharge headroom and less likely to sag too.

Can always toss the old battery back in if things get dire. Sometimes I wonder if I should have an experimental setup in the side.

21s really does allow that flexibility of torque and top speed, imo.

I pulled the trigger! Sold my 2wd racer (very sad moment as I’d put a lot of time into that build) so I had some funds to buy flights to esk8con and do an upgrade on my 4wd racer.

16s6p Molicel p45b underway. My silicone job is less than desirable but got covered in fish paper anyway to hide my sins haha.

Nickel is cut and welding will commence over the weekend. It’s my second battery build so I’m pretty nervous but keen to get it done. Have run everything by @glyphiks which has put my mind at ease somewhat so thanks for that!

I’ll be running a single QS8 loop key this time so ESCs are powered at the same time. I never had an issue with two loops keys previously but it’s easier anyway. D100s and D75 have power buttons too so :crossed_fingers: i can get them cooperating over canbus.

I’ve also had my esc boxs redesigned with the help of @Tasventouras and his contacts. Bonnet scoop at front of box and rear of box will have a mesh cutout to allow air to escape. It will also be raised with an aluminum base so it acts as a heat sink for the esc with fresh air passing underneath it.

Im hopeful this will allow me to push the limits of these escs. I’m also very hopeful the 205kv Radium Reachers will hold up to the higher voltage and not thermal throttle too early in races :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:
