I finished my Landyachtz dinghy. The deck was a gift from @NullReference but everything else I had laying around. I know @b264 is going to appreciate this.
The enclosure is made entirely from leftover bondo from Walmart. it’s kind of terrible but whatever. I sanded it for 649 hours and it turned out mediocre.
I built a somewhat asymmetrical 9S4P 30Q pack i literally wrapped around a FocBox. You’re welcome, battery porn fans.
Stuck it in my terrible enclosure and paired it with an older single 6355 sensored open cage Maytech with my brand lasered onto the can. Running a 12mm belt at a 16/32 ratio on ahmyo akashas with my old pressfit wheel pulley. An older v2 Maytech remote gives me throttle due to flipsky not supporting 9S with thier vx1 remote. Probably better anyway, I need that vx1 for a customer. Note I made a pocket fuel guage in the first image. Those are great you should all make them. Bearings are bones built ins, trucks are 160mm caliber II fifty cals.
That’s right, 9S 6355 single 6355 16/32 on akashas.
Not seen here is where I dremelled a slot for the motor cables in the enclosure. I assure you I did that.
I also drilled a hole for the charge port, but that’s the only thing I drilled for because there’s no button. It’s push start.
The battery is potted in silicone, so it’s not just flopping around in the case. At the moment though the ESC is flopping around slightly but I’ll fix that later when I feel like it.
It rides stable. It’s not quick or fast, but it gets up to speed ok and is still super stable near the top end. Seems like it tops out somewhere just above 20mph with me on it, but I haven’t actually measured it.
I can walk into a store with it easily, it has already fetched me several beers. That parts important when the rona’s around.
The akashas are weirdly grippy and smooth for 76mm wheels. the cheese grater in front of my house is more bearable on these than expected because they’re cushy and grippy in spite of thier size. I suspect sorcery is at play.
The torque steer is also somewhat minimal due to the narrow tracking and stance width and the lower level of launch force. honestly It’s barely noticeable, at least I don’t notice it. Brakes are surprisingly good but I cranked them way up.
it’s fun to ride. I can almost do an endless tail slide. I may put spark thingies on the tail.
