When my first board was a Chinese board, putting tires on dkp was definitely a nice upgrade to eat up the crappy roads.
It’s probably over due for me to make a lighter variation with tires.
The other 4 boards with tires are all giant monsters right…
The smallest of them being the Khymera, still looks enormous next to this.
Almost the same axle to axle distance which is curious.
But none of them were suitable for the tooling around type vibes here in front of the house.
Nice man, glad to be of assistance. Looks like you got a good targeted small set. I really don’t need the big one mine came with.
Yesterday the Six Shooters went up on the wall
The Akashas back onto the Demonseed.
I ordered the Meepo Racing wheels to put on here, but I don’t know how long shipping will take.
Riding thane is such an adventure!!!
I went on an 8 mile excursion on the Demonseed, and it was an interesting reminder of how much attention you have to pay on Thane.
Such a different vibe.
Eyes glued to the road!!!
This was my very first of my new gravel road on urethane wheels.
It’s so brutal.
I made it down the block to get out of the neighborhood.
But it sucked the whole time.
Once I got on better surfaces it was a great vibe on the DKP.
I even went up a road that is well aged chipnseal.
It’s been done a few years, and it is tolerable on the Akashas.
The board decided to stop on me here on this sketchy curb transition…
The enclosure is pretty thick. And you literally can’t get smaller wheels for esk8…
So I am begging for it.
But it was a great ride.
Stoked on this set up.
Need to get out on it more before the tires go back on.
Off we went on our last summer vacation.
Only 2 hours away to a cabin on lake Pomme de Terre in the very middle of nowhere Missouri.
The GT, the Patton, and the Gravel Flux ( plus trailer)
were the chose toys to take.
To confess, the past couple vacation outings only had one wheeled toys taken along.
But I needed the Tow Truck!!!
This place is very much in the middle of nowhere…
But that is more up my speed these days.
Quiet, and not much on the lake.
Looks really pristine.
The water is down a ways, probably 300 yards or so.
So the trailer is a nice way to get the kids down there for a quick adventure.
Early this morning I rolled the GT down the hill to check out the foggy lake.
The Gravel Flux flew up that hill towing the two boys so easily.
The Patton made it up fine…
The GT had to be carried on the last steep part.
Probably one of the suckyest things about Onewheels, is when you have to move them up stairs, or a hill, or terrain… And you have to pick up that monster…
The Onewheel may not be great for going up a steep grass hill…
It was a ton of fun going down.
But it really is great for tooling around and micro adventures.
We took the kids to the playground and I cruised around extra mellow like on the GT.
There is the Damn…
I even found some gravel trails behind the playground…
Pretty sweet.
The Onewheel is also my favorite balance board!!!
I jump on one pretty much every morning inside the house to loosen up my ankles and hips.
As it turns out, that most unexpected use scenario is quite a big deal for me!!!
I got to make good use of the electric toys on vacation.
The Onewheel was great for stretching and a bit of exploring. Probably what got the most action.
The EUC didn’t get a ton of play. But I did enjoy it for going up and down the hill to the lake a bunch of times to get a work out and some sweat going.
The Gravel Flux is what got around on the property best. It could really charge up that dirt hill…
But it really got taken there for the trailer, and I did get the boys on it a little bit.
Good times.
I always find it really nice to be home after vacation.
It was nice to be chilling here and roll around with the kids in front of the house.
Onewheels win for Parenting.
Water keeps falling from the sky here…
It is different… We had it good for riding when it was mega drought…
But hey.
I can always take the Gravel Boi out.
It wasn’t raining anymore.
Just wet ground.
It’s definitely a whole different vibe riding in moist conditions.
Mellow. Cautious. But quiet and peaceful. Ended up with about 7 miles
But the sirens of esk8 started singing their song late into the ride and I had a mystery clicking noise coming from the left drive wheel.
Let’s all say hooray for mystery noises!!!
Monday after vacation…
Argh…
I was eager to slack off work some.
So I snuck in the garage.
And I had some tinkering to do…
First up the Gravel Boi.
I figured it’s easy enough to open up to see if I can actually notice anything wrong with it causing the noise…
Spoiler alert. Found nothing wrong.
I am not sure what I am expecting to see… But I am not happy with how the Superlube is looking after so few miles…
Figuring out the grease to use in here has been tricky.
The stuff NewBee sent me with the first set is my gold standard… And the Gravel Flux still sounds good…
But you can’t get it here.
I decided to slap some Red n tacky on here…
As least it has Tacky in the name and to me that is reassuring.
The Gravel Boi went back together. Nothing obviously wrong…
I also did a quick pass on the Demonseed.
I had to do some grinding on the BN 36tooth pulleys that keep getting bent and hitting the belt funny.
Making clicking noises.
Finally. A clicking noise I know the root cause of
…
No pictures taken apparently.
But hey. I wasn’t done.
Because I could put new Rail Guards on the GT.
Ahhhhh - the joy of easy tinkering, with special made cosmetic parts…
Much satisfaction!!!
.
After work my buddy Drew called and said he was in need of his fix.
So he came over and we did a quick 7.5 miles ride.
His Onewheel is still in a hundred pieces in my garage. So he has been borrowing the GT alot.
After that we played in front of the house some and practiced bonks.
And with the Pint I picked up some more rocks for my collection…
Wowsers!!!
14 miler night ride on the Flux.
So peaceful and quiet out tonight…
Shout out to Kaman for the Z-mote!!!
- these lights make me happy every time I remember to turn them on.
.
Errands on Esk8…
It’s interesting how you don’t quite realize how close stuff really was, and the automatic instinct is to drive…
Had to come to quick care at a nearby grocery store for an earache.
2 miles.
10 minutes of fun on the Omakase.
The hardest part was probably just deciding what to take here…
If the Demonseed had the ties on, it may have won today.
I pondered the Khymera, but the battery is suspect.
So I decided on fast, but small.
So the Omakase it was.
I think it’s super cool to take these runs on esk8 or the EUC, and not mess with the car.
I do think there is a time and urgency evaluation that happens before I make the choice on how to get from A to B.
Most of the time esk8 will win if I have all kinds of time and can lolligag.
This is because it takes me a bit to gear up.
And I like to take the long way.
Today it was an an easy choice.
And so many pluses…
Feeling Akashas on the grocery store floor was epic.
It’s a gorgeous day, and the park views were lovely.
And riding this tiny murder board on these tiny wheels is exhilarating!!!
