My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

So…

Does esk8 change the very fabric of time and space?!?

Something weird happened this morning.

I had to take my car in for an oil change.

The drive there was only 2 miles.

But the ride back took 7.5 miles…

So weird!

So.

Is it poetic justice, or plain stupidity?

Taking the mayden voyage of the fixed Gravel Boi in the rain?!?

I had to go pick my car up.
A storm had rolled through…
It was still sprinkling.
I could have had my wife drive me. But where is the fun in that.

So out we go on wet ground.

This is more what I had in mind when I think of being reasonable to take a board out in the rain.

Ground was wet… It was sprinkling some, steadily, but it was no longer raining hard.

This was nothing like the heavy rain I rode through when I killed it.

So it was fine.

And the board felt great.

Glad to have this one back too!!!

When I was rolling back on the Flux yesterday is when I first saw the City back in action.

They came back and, brushed, swept up, and scooped the excess gravel.

It is way, way, way less of a shit show now…

Gonna need those bigger MAD wheels now…

It has been raining here quite a bit recently…

Which is different because we were in a drought…

So I tinkered a whole bunch and took a million, billion tiny steps towards the Demonseed.

Going to give pneumatics a try here.
Which I have really not ridden any, on DKP.

I did a bunch of stuff, but I’ll catch up on that later.

More importantly at 1 am it had mostly dried up and I got out for a ride!!!

Wet gravel roads call for the Gravel Boi.

Ended up doing a cool 7 miles. Got to see some cool lighting.

Back to tinkering…

I wonder if anyone is able to get pulleys off without bending the lip…

What do you use to get them off? I just use a pulley puller, works like a charm.

Here is my pulley puller team.

I managed to get the other side off clean…
I was probably more patient with the torch, and dialing the width of the jaw…

I do wish the tips of the jaw were a couple mm longer to clear the flange better…

Here’s mine it definitely takes up more space though lol

Don’t dig the old ring out. Assemble the bearings again — or assemble new ones in the old ring — and then pull the whole bearing out.

Well…
You got me feeling inadequate…

I need to see a picture of video of this thing in action…

Brian. We talked about my level of patience before.

You know it’s very unlikely I would take the long route for anything…

So here I just dug at them with a tiny screwdriver.

And until the gears explode mid ride, I am going to assume it was ok.

Here ya go Pittsburgh Bearing Separator and Puller Set 62593 Harbor Freight - YouTube

Covers the gist of it, I use the smaller set for motor pinions. I needed something that could really wedge between the motor pinion and the motor.

I wonder how many hundreds of dollars in pulleys this could have saved me…

Much tinkering later I have a new variation to try out!!!

Wow…

On further news regarding Gravelpocalipse:

The tiny rocks are sharp enough to puncture the Enduro tire on my Onewheel…

So yep…

Dude wtf that’s super annoying

The Demonseed DKP on tires felt awesome!!!

It’s just what I needed for this crazy road.

I love Esk8!!!

Also, it didn’t work…
With 15/60 had insane tooth skipping.
So back on the bench…

I put 18/60 on… Kinda worked…

I was able to ride 3 miles…

It has to be changed.
The Six Shooters are going to a museum case.

And I need to sort out what wheels and tires to put on here.

So bittersweet…

DIY is a disease…

I can’t believe this didn’t hit me earlier.

But I am totally calling this the Gravel Demonseed.

I rode around in front of the house…
Got to 1.5 miles…

It’s kind of a big deal I have a board I can tool around in front of the house again.

Being able to turn on a dime and do tight figure 8s was fun.

The 6x2s had amazing grip on the chipnseal…

I had not really spent time with Pneumatics on DKP.
So this is kind of a new world.

Looking forward to getting some new wheels on here to get a smooth drive going.
