My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

Gravelpocalipse claimed it’s first victim last night.

Mathew, the EUC kid with the EX30 was coming over to ride.

He forgot I had just warned him about riding into the neighborhood…

And out of habit turned left into my street coming in pretty hot. Probably 30s…

And he immediately met a 6 inch layer of loose gravel that sent him sliding.

Into sharp gnarly tiny gravel rocks…

Mother fuckers…

Wow man, didn’t realize it was that deep. This is so bad.

Holy shit, hope he feels better soon.

Do you think naming your boards gravel flux and gravelboi had any influence on what happened to your street?

Yeah…
That part he hit is about the worst at the bottom of a hill transitioning to a “regular” road.

It’s really piled up there.

But there are sections all over with patches that are a good 5 inches…

It’s a heavy duty shit show.

I believe the modus operandi of the city is to leave this loose gravel to settle some with time and cars passing.
So several weeks…
Then they are going to brush it up some.

I mean. I am extra pissed.
But it’s a bummer for everyone…

Sketchy as hell for motorcycles or bikes and ebikes…

And anyone that is big into their car…

It’s like this distopian tale of two worlds as I see mega freshies getting layed down just a few miles from here…

But dude…

I think I have gotten 3 sets of 76mm Akashas going since building the Gravel boards…

I had show the universe my devotion to thane…

You know…

Speaking of the Gravel Boi…

I need to get it back together…

So says the universe.

This is one of those things I paused on for too long…

I hope I can sort it out from here.

I wonder if the metal and “white plastic” stuff can go in the dishwasher

DIY and the eternal tiny little rabbit holes…

This is why we love/hate it right…

Getting the little bearings out was hard.

It was 100 times harder when I just broke the bearing and had to dig the ring out…

I wonder how often other people wash parts…

Did it work? I use the same method as my genitals. Quick wipe and it’s all good :joy:.

Seriously though for gears and casing, isn’t a pressure wash going to be better to get all muck off?

Yeah.
Or a steamer…
Not sure how to keep the little parts from flying off…

Anyways.
The metal is good.

Much Work to do on the plastic…

Intrigued to see how the plastic cleans off. I’m sure you will keep everyone posted

Dawn soap, a toothbrush, and pointy Qtips did an ok job.

I have been putting this clean up effort off for a long time.

Procrastination is the real winner.

I am excited about getting to the fun part now that is assembly!!!

So funny.
Excited to start putting stuff back together.

Got the new bearings in pretty easily.

And then I got to bolting stuff!

And yep. The very first step I took was wrong…

So I got to unbolting stuff…

The direction of the gears matter…

I am glad I had the smaller drives handy to use as a reference to see what goes where.

Let’s see if I can get it right from here.

Back at it.

Looks like its time for new tires.

I really like how the Tommi Boi hubs stretch out these tires.

Back to the Future…

Or Forward to the Past…

Something like that.

I got some help… Let’s see if I actually make any progress.

The Gravel Boi actually went onto the bench.

I gotta remove the axle to slap the gears back on.
And I am putting the legit Matrix III clamps on, instead of my hacked up ones

And then I am going to half ass some shit…

I am not going to take the motor pinion out to replace those little bearings…

That is like begging for trouble…

I am going to clean this up as best as I can in place. And figure out some lube to put in the bearings.

Did you use only grub screws for those pinions or did you green loctite the shaft/pinion?
