My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

Yesterday (Saturday) was an epic spring day and we had our first epic family ride of the year.

We went to a creek spot off of the gravel trails, then downtown for burgers and ice cream, and then hung out on Campus a bit for the kids to run around.

Ended up at 13 miles on the Gravel Flux.

There were baby mountain bike trails right by the spot where we stopped and I got to roll around by myself for a bit…

Fun to do. But lots of really hard turns I had to stop on the Gravel Flux.
It probably would be ok on Onewheels…

I think this was the first time I have locked up the board outside somewhere… I was very near the whole time.

And the little dude got to try riding on the back of the Rad for the first time.
They all took turns as riding with mommy is the most coveted spot.

Tinkering might have to wait…
It’s definitely a time to ride!!!

Welp.
I got my Knox Urbane MK2 shirt today.

And it is getting sent back.

It’s not as light and airy as I was hoping…

The size was too small for me. But there are too many non mesh parts and it’s heavy!!!

I don’t mind the look, and the protection looks really legit.
Construction is super nice.

But I am not looking for any of that.
Looking for something to make summer riding less rough…

This is not it.

I have been mostly wearing the Beyond Armor summer shirt without a back protector and the newer pads I got.
And that is really not bad in this cooler heat…
But mid summer it’s all brutal…

I think I might try ordering this Icon fieldArmor shirt to try next…

Have you looked at the Fox Racing Baseframe Pro shirts? I have the short sleeve version and its not too hot in Florida

So do you wear separate elbow pads?
And does the chest and back pads come off?

And do you wear it over a Tshirt?

I sometimes wear the Lo Pro sleeves (concrete visionary) as elbow pads, but mostly only when I’m trying new setups. I think Fox Racing has a long sleeve version with forearm pads?

All the pads are housed in pockets, so you can take them out. I actually use the back pad in my eclipse jacket when its cold out.

I wear it under a tshirt, not over. With the pads out I can just throw the shirt in the wash or just rinse it in the shower, it dries quick.

Today was a pretty epic riding day.

Started off with an unusual school drop off on the Gravel Flux.

It was a really nice morning and I wanted to ride a bit more so I jumped on the GT and did 4.6 miles.

More green bits are starting to pop.

I went and met up with Benji for lunch on the Llama and did 14 miles.

Then the usual school pick up on the Gravel Flux.

And after work I took out the Demonseed just around the neighborhood. Just a little cruise.
Vibing on the Akashas.

And finally I got out for a sunset ride and did 8.5 miles on the Rally Cat.
Again. Vibing on the Akashas.

I got out of the neighborhood a bit even.
I cut the ride short because my phone died…

I have been riding the couch for a bit now… And it 70 degrees out… So I should really go ride some more.

I did not make it out…
Laziness won.
It’s ok.
It’s nice all day and night every day for a while.

Went for a morning ride on the GT and hit the little trails which is super fun!!!

Ended up actually doing 9 miles which is a ton on the Onewheel…

I went on an 18 miler for lunch break on the Flux.

The board is running great.
Everything seems fine with the DV6P as far as riding goes.

I did not try to connect during the ride.

I tried when I got home and it was a no go…
Vesc tool connected at first and I could only get to the main data screen. When I scrolled up to see the top data screen It had all zeros and said disconnected…
Then when I tried to connect again I got stuck on both Vesc tool and Freesk8…

So good riding.
Still some weird stuff happening.
But just a slight nuisance at this time…

I don’t really change settings during rides.
I can see the battery with the LLT app.

I wonder if I may get better connectivity with the Maker X Bluetooth dongle instead of the Flipsky one…
But that should not matter right…

On and on we go.

I got my old Pint Controller in the mail to harvest the box and connector to Vesc my Pint X.

So that is the priority project now.

Bunch of work to do.
But the steps are becoming clearer.

I hit the trails on the GT this morning.

Lunch break ride was on the Flux.

Pretty spring flowers!!!

On today’s episode of the DV6P is weird to me…

I rode 18 miles.
It ran well.

Here is the weird part. The motors are loud again.
Like before I reflashed firmware.

Nothing changed, other than sitting in the Garage over night. So that is weird.

I did not actually try to connect either during my ride, or after.

On today’s episode of

DIY is a disease.

About 12 miles into my ride I start hearing a clicking noise…

And it’s quite obvious it was from the front wheels…

I think the left wheel.

Got a couple videos.

I think this is the noise caused by the bearing being loose in the bearing seat.

I got home and took the wheels off.
Bearings seem fine.

The inner bearing on the left hub drops off pretty easily.

The other 3 you have to push off.

I am going to slap new bearings on and give it a try.

But I am worried this hub is shot, and that bums me out because I like the look a lot, but they don’t have a lot of miles really…

That sound would drive me nuts. Are you using bearing spacers?

Yeah

Well this sucks…

What happened to the hub?

Ilit appears the inner bearing seat is slightly loose.which causes clicking.

Maybe machining tolerances were not perfect… Or the aluminum is on the soft side and it deformed.

I am going to make a post on the Matrix III thread to see if anyone has seen this issue and what MBS may think…
