My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

So dude.
How old are you now?
Can I see a picture of said 70lb board?

Also seems like you had time to think about falling.

Was all that thinking done after the fatir during the fall?

All my falls seem to happen so fast that I am not even sure I am there during the falling part…

I am just on the ground wondering how I got there…

I turned 60 in June. Yea things didn’t happen all that quickly. I really was going 10mph or so and saw the obstacle in time to process it and steer some in hopes that the center of the board would clear. It has 4wheel independent suspension so it has more clearance down the centerline. I really do remember wondering why my leg betrayed me as I was actually falling. Think: You take a big running step and stumble enough that your other foot doesn’t have the chance get fully under you. The thoughts of embarrassment probably came after actually standing back up since it should have been a real easy runout. Thought I’d rolled my ankle is the soft dirt, but nothing hurt. Wasn’t until I’d flipped the board over and verified that nothing was broken that my right calf started to feel like I’d taken a knee strike to the muscle. After stretching for a bit I continued the off road portion of the ride for another 7 or 8 miles and was fine. The next day though…. Dayum I hate getting old! Here’s the board. I think Propel lists the weight at 65lbs but I had the second battery lashed to the deck between my feet at the time, so I’m sure it’s 70lbs.

Oh yea here’s the ride. Was my first on the X4S and the new grip tape went on yesterday.

That looked like a super fun ride!!!

I want to spend more time on a suspension board…
Such a trippy ride.

Bummed…
The gravel Flux is back on the bench…

That is a bummer. Looks like you may have the problem sorted though?

Yeah. No quite yet…

I opened up the motor to check it out and it had a couple loose copper strands…

I really doubt this has anything to do with the clicking I had with the drive system…

But needs fixing anyways.
So I won’t get to bolt the BN gear drives ack until tomorrow… And then wait a couple days…

And then cross my fingers…

It was sounding really good today for a while.

This really has me thinking about some ISO6 chains…

I did have a great ride today on the Gravel Flux until it started clicking on the past couple miles.

Did 19 miles all together.

Towed the kids to the playground which we had not done in a while.

It was a perfect day weather wise.

And I tooled around a bit on the big grass hills and that is always fun.

Good times.

Well.
For tonight the issues with the Gravel Flux will stay unresolved.

But the little dude came in the garage and asked to go up on the bench.

So I will do a couple upgrades for the Omakase.

Going to replace the TB baseplates with Caliber II baseplates ( these were on here to start with…)

I am adding riptide Pivot Cups.

And im going to take half the risers off… Since I’m pretty sure I’m keeping the Akashas here…

So let’s go lower right!!!

I had some help reorganizing…

20220925_210156_1

But I was able to do the stuff I wanted to on the Omakase without finding anything broken…

I had two .25 inch risers in the back and took one out.
On a hard lean the motor mounts hit the enclosure…
Maybe that is why I had 2 risers to start with anyways…

I think it will be fine riding.

These motor mounts are in a sketchy place.
It would be best if there was no enclosure tail in the way and I could angle them closer to the deck…

But with the Akashas they are extra duper close to the ground!!!

The Rally Cat has 85s and I butchered the mounts for a better angle…
So it’s way better

But hey. So far the Omakase has been great on the Akashas.

The little things I did today will probably be a very very sutil difference but it seems worth it.

Got some exciting stuff in the mail today

New hubs from @tomiboi to slap on the Khymera…

The parts look really nice out of the box.
I hope to get some miles on them asap.

And then this here chair for the Onewheel… Because I’m feeling young and dumb today…

Today’s episode of “On the Bench” is brought to you by:
The Khymera!

Featuring the Z-mote by @Zyb
And the Hubba Hus by @tomiboi

The Khymera had something weird happen on my last ride on it several weeks back that I rode to a shop. And hung out for a bit.
And when I was trying to leave my Unity acted like there was no ppm input.

I have not opened it up to see if I had a loose connection.
Or if somehow the Mini Remote became unpaired…

So I am going to dig into it now…

Getting help…

I have to change the jst orientation on the battery pin …
That seems hard…
Gonna do the wheels now I think.

In a fun and unexpected turn of events I just tried the Khymera and the old remote connected…

I had tried that before.

I love the consistency and reliability of my set ups

Welp.
It was a good adventure tinkering tonight…

It’s 1am…
I got 60% done maybe…

Maybe I am underestimating how long shit should take.

I got the new hubs on.

That went mostly smoothly.

I had to dig out another pair of wheel pulleys to make the spacing from the motor plate correct.
Sometimes it pays to be a hoarder.

I broke a long bolt… Stripped another one… So I had to cut down bolts…
These are the long ones for the pulleys.
I like to go through the hub and spacer with a long bolt.

Bearing seats on the hubs seemed firm.

The 7 inch evolve tires look to be spinning pretty true.

All I do for balancing is put one little weight on the outside of the hub opposite the valve.

I’m using a spacer and a speed ring between the bearings.

I like the design of the hubs and the assembly was easy with the front side holding the two bearings.
Neat stuff.

I really hope they ride well.

It is quite the difference with the way the tires look vs mbs rockstars II.

So yeah.
Tires rotated.
New hubs in.
And I am loving the look.

What I did not do however, was get the Z-mote installed.

I got it put together.

Again stoked on this thing and the quality inside is looking great to me.

And to echo the words of a young person,
The lights are major hype!!!
