My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

Welp.
Looks like not having a wire sheath and heat shrink there gives you a bit more space…

I ground my truck clamps some…but it is still super tight…

I feel like it’s gonna wear through the silicone and short, so I’ve been watching it pretty carefully.

I would at least wrap some tesa tape on there.
That is what I put on the Omakase

And after watching the video of the clicking I got annoyed so I am back on the bench.

And new theory.
I don’t think it’s the hub…

It is clicking without it being there.

So maybe a bearing on the drive?

That’s probably a good idea actually. It would be nicer if the clamps were sloped down there to accommodate this. Iirc someone else did that for theirs.

Do you remember if and what color loctite you used when you installed these originally?

Oh but off course.
I used the recommended green 648.

Because you know.
I was told bad shit could happen if the pinion comes loose…

Lol.

 indeed, but seems not THAT bad. You do ride a lot and I think this is a product of the micro vibrations that exist in all gear drives but are much amplified in drives with steel on steel gears. MOAR LOCTITE! :ocean:

Check that big bearing in the gear box cover, it’s possible some shavings made their way in there and that’s what could be causing the clicking

I just want to take a moment and thank the esk8 gods for shinning their grace upon me and making this yet another gentle failure and not a catastrophic break that sends me flying to the emergency room.

Domo arigato!!!

Welp.

That was quite a rabbit hole…

Wow.

All back together and ready to cure now…

So folks.

This is what jinxing yourself looks like.

DIY is a disease…

Went for a nice warm up on the GT this morning and saw the cutest little turtle.

Glad I saw it and didn’t bonk over it …

When my motor pinion got loose it fucked up both the motor bearing and that housing bearing. I had to replace half of my drivetrain, but for a year of maintenance its not the end of the world

Welp.

Fell today.

Pretty good one at that.

GT nose dived on a rough ass road…

Only 1.7 miles into my ride at 90% battery…

Totally unexpected…

Falling happens so fast dude …

The gear did its job.

I think this is the universe telling me to get back to wearing full face for esk8…

This was probably at 20 mph…

It is the morning after…
Not quite at 24 hour yet…

And my face does not feel or look too bad…

But son of a bitch…

My body is sore as hell.

Why is gravity so hard these days…

Falling is hard these days man…

At 45 and 215 lbs it is just brutal…

Today I feel pretty decent. And I rode an ok bit.

But man, yesterday it sucked… Just so sore everywhere…
And it was a mild fall and the gear did a really good job…

But still talking that hit is I something I could do with way less…

But riding and moving did feel good.
Again thankfull for it being another fall that does not take me out of commission.

Did 9 miles on rhe Flux this morning to get my mother in law’s car from the shop.

And then happy hour was really cool with an interesting mix of boards… Taking it really easy in front of the house. But still ended up doing 6 miles.

Started of on the GT.

Then I took the Gravel Flux out to check on the drives after reassembly and curing a few days.

And they sounded really good.

I got on the Pint a little bit which is a real joy when chilling…

The neighbor kid rode the Demonseed some.

And then I got a bit different and broke out the Wowgo…
And that is kind of a special occasion…

And finally I pushed the Rayne Crush analog up the street…
And yeah… That is hard … This thing need the Unlimited Hubs to come to life soon…

Indeed it is. Was on my X4S riding off road and for sure going less than 10mph when I saw the remains of a broken off 4x4 post sticking up through the grass at the last second. Tried to straddle it but ended up with fairly solid contact on one of the lower control arms. Running it out shouldn’t have been a problem, but my back leg was already super tight from muscling a 70lb board for a few miles. My right leg calf muscle decided that it didn’t want to go from its static, bunched up state, to fluid and extended in that instant and just said “no”. There was no real pain from my leg then, so I remember thinking “Why am I falling?” and “This is embarrassing.” as I hit. The ground was soft and I was going slow enough that I didn’t even roll. That was almost 2 weeks ago and my leg finally feels like I can do some light riding as long as I gently stretch first. My hip joint pain only lasted for a few days thankfully. The hell of it is, that in my early and mid 40s, I was doing an activity every weekend that had me intentionally running full speed and double knee sliding, baseball sliding, or Superman diving onto turf, grass or dirt multiple times throughout the day. Those days of reckless abandon are long gone.
I’m glad that you’re ok, and for what it’s worth I really enjoy reading about your riding adventures (misadventures?) in these posts.
