My Esk8s. A journal of sorts

Thanks dude.
Hope you enjoyed the ride.

Dual king pin trucks are a whole thing on their own.
I would say rkp is what belongs on the Demonseed.

What an amazing deck right!!!

You can top mount to get more clearance. I liked the ride feel with it like that pretty well.

Alternatively you could use boardnamics adjustable base plates for added
Height and still drop through.
I think they add 16mm of height.

Tail is the same unless you got the bamboo version. You saw I sanded my tails down right.
That added a smidge of motor clearance.
But not as much as top mounting would.

Welp…
Regarding the ghost in the shell in the Flux.

Did a 28 miler today on the 23.46 unity firmware and it did totally fine…

So there is that.

Got some work done on the Llama today.

Thanks @JoeyZ5 for hanging out!

Put the M1 gear drives together with the TB 6380 170kvs.

And using the spiral gears instead of the straight cut.

And cut a hole in the enclosure for the heat sink.
Need to figure out how to glue it on…

So pretty close to being able to slap it all back together.

Why not use epoxy ? Or too permanent ?

I’m ok with it being permanent.
Epoxy would probably have been good too.

I went with super glue gell around the lip.
Let that sit a bit and then went around it on the inside with silicone.

Should be ok I think.

This will probably be easier to undo if I have to go there someday…

Enjoying this brief moment immediately after the realization I need to cut these dang motor shafts…

Dang it.

Ok.
I’m going to call the Llama done.

Recap on parts.

Llama deck.
Killshot enclosure.
12s4p 40t.
Xenith (running 23.46)
Universal heat sink.
TB 6380s 170kV
BN M1 drives. 2.78. helical.
BN 220 and adjustable baseplates.
TB 218s up front.
TB 110 72a

Went on a 17 miler during lunch break today.
It is a perfect fucking day here.

And if felt pretty good.

The things I like:
It is giant.
I have ground clearance (rare for me)
It is powerful… (Going to 6380 170kv was good)
It is really probably faster than I need it to be.
Did well at speed.
The TB 110s were feeling great.
It was a great ride.

I ran into some funny stuff in the middle of the building process, but that is behind me now.
Had the deck sitting on a rag to not get scratches. And the rag some chemical on it that ruined the finish on the tail.
Seriously pissed me off.
So now I have to stain that tail spot on the deck.
… Crappy sharpie job for now.

Didn’t have bolts long enough for the front trucks with the risers…
found some. Then didn’t have matching bolts short enough for the back… had to cut some
Motherfucker…

Had the motors hitting the adjustable baseplate on my first ride.
Had to shave it off.
And then do it all again because I didn’t grind enough…

But this first official maiden voyage was really good.

I like the look of this board.
It is different.
But I’m just really happy I liked riding it.

Here is a crappy video trying to capture the noise of the M1 drives.
I think I the helical sound a bit cleaner. But maybe it has to do with me knowing what to expect this time …

Are those ideaTB mount ?

Yeppers.

Wow, those helical drives really sing in the high RPMs. Have you been officially converted to GDs.now? I’m also curious to know if the GDs translate to lower routine maintenance, compared to the rest of your fleet.

I will need some time to digest it really.

Part of my had dreamed about falling in love with these and getting the BN AT gears for the Flux.
As of today that is not happening.
The Flux on the belts with idlers are running perfectly.

May it happen down the line?
Maybe.
I think I would need to convince myself there is a significant improvement in efficiency with the gears.

It actually makes me kind of nervous not being able to see what is happening in the box… With the belts and chains it is right there…

I really can’t say I have had extra maintenance or issues driven by belts. I feel pretty lucky in that area.

Plenty of other shit randomly breaking. But no belt issues…

But really.
All in all, I think today was my real first proper ride on gears and the board and drive train felt great!!!

Really Josh @monsterbuilder
Breaking chains is more my jam these days.

Haha… did I jinx you? I shouldn’t have asked

How are you liking your idea mounts with the chain drive? I’m considering using the same mounts you have on apex airs with chains. thanks!

Hey dude.
I have 2 set ups with the IdeaTB mounts on Matrix II trucks.

They have been really solid and I really like them.

If I end up getting the Air trucks IdeaTB is most likely the route I would take(i guess there are no options yet…)

I have only actually ran them using belts. I have not used the chains with them yet. I will on the Haero, but I need to finish it up.

I see one possible issue in that the motor mount adjustability is not super far, meaning, you can only move the motors back and forth a little bit to adjust tension. Since they are meant to run with idlers.

So that short travel, may prove to be a challenge in getting a chain that is just the right length
may need to use half links and such. and then revisit once the chain stretches…

got my tiny little motors today.
cute little things.

shipping with 15 dollars Parcell Service only took 19 days here to Missouri. so that is cool.

This looks like a similar plan I have to do with my YoFace Hybrid…I want move to gears

but with gears you gotta have giant wheels…

I wouldn’t say giant…
Haven’t you done it with 97mm torque wheels? Think I could pull of 85’s?
